I'd trust my service manager. I'd buy the upgrade parts I want, be it big bore, cams, head work, Timken bearing upgrade, Torrington bearing upgrade, SE Compensator upgrade, Tru and weld the crank, ....you name it. Now is the time to blow the works since it's going down to changing the cases.
Pull out the credit card if you have to but don't sweat the H-D shop doing all the work and you won't regret spending a bunch of money on performance upgrades at this very rare time when they can't charge you a dime for labor.
Look at this cracked case as a blessing because most of us paid the labor to be able to complain about not being able to get traction until fourth gear, lol.
I would for sure do up grades to crank and bearings while it's all tore apart .
you can always do the 103 kit & cams down the road .
I would not do the cams and 103 kit if your not going to do the crank & bearing upgrades
+1, less than 1000 miles is BS, insist on a new bike, or a complete refund if you paid cash. Your dealer should of insisted at least a new engine from the moco. If they insist on a rebuild get them to do the 103 upgrade for free
Just talked to the dealer, I should have my bike back by Wednesday. No upgrades just back to normal with new cases. I wish I could have done the stage 2 103 but I just didn't have the extra loot right now.
How should I brake in the engine, I don't have to treat it like a new engine do I?
