Kind of looking back...you have an 09 that is well within the warranty period. It broke. The warranty is being put to use.Honestly , would you expect more than that from your auto dealer if a new car broke within warranty?
Looks like Harley is giving me the run around. I called twice, they said they don't give extended warranties or services out.
That's baloney. They have done it because something similar happened to a guy at my dealership. Granted, his case wasn't cracked, it had a HOLE in it. But the MoCo overnighted a new engine, gave him an extended warranty, and a $1000 gift card.
If I bought a new car for 15gs and it leaked oil in the first 5-10 thousand miles I'd be demanding a new car same with the bike.... However it sounds like the dealer treated you good and you allready got the bike fixed so don't expect anything out of Harley at this point... If it was still in the process of negotiations then I'd say you could still argue with them but not this time... Live, Learn, and Ride like a bad *** and see if you can break it again lol no but seriously the tougher you are on the bike the quicker it'll break(IF ITS GOING TO BREAK)... Tell the dealership you want some free accessories for the trouble.
Keep pushing for the extended warranty. It is common practice (they would never tell you that) to issue them at no charge when major warranty work needs to be done early on. There are way too many things that can go wrong with a rebuild...
Ok, my husband calls me a Pitt Bull... when he needs something done he lets me out.
I would demand a New Bike and settle for only that. If my 08 Street Bob broke at 1,000 miles, my bike and I would be at the dealer immediately. Your Dealer maybe have been nice but they should stand behind you and demand a new bike, and nothing less. Don't accept anything less than a new bike. Mentioning calling your attorney, goes a long way.
Enjoy your bike. Ignore all the ongoing advice about what you should do at this point. You've had enough stress over something that's supposed to relieve stress. Case closed.
I would like to have gotten free service on my brand new bike, just to make sure it was put together right, but didn't get any services free. Would have guessed they wouldn't be giving you any either. The expectation on a new bike is that it is put together properly. The same with the engine they just rebuilt (that it is put together properly). As for the extended warranty, I would have to agree with you that a similar warranty that you would expect to get on a new bike should come with the new engine. The fact that you didn't have that many miles on the bike when they rebuilt it wouldn't mean much of an extension, but I think that your dealership would try to help you out in that area if it crapped out near the end of your current warranty period. Then again I am sure the moco will allow you to purchase an extended warranty if you are skittish about the reliability of your new engine.
I would try a stroke crank and a big bore kit all you have to buy is the parts. Save the labor of tear down. I had to fiends to this on there 88" motors.
All you should do is call Harley Davidson and ask to speak to their executive customer care. Tell them you demand a new bike and somethign for your trouble.
You shoudl not communicate through the dealer. Call Harley direct and get a new bike and nothing less.
