Normal? for sure! Just think of those high compression piston and rings going up and down and the valve springs slamming those valves shut in fractions of seconds! I'd be amazed if I couldn't hear that! But like you it threw me in the beginning too!

ticking can be quieted down with certain oil choices or by using Lucas oil stabilizer.
add 20oz of lucas oil stabilizer... that will really quite down valve train noise and the rockers!
Oh, and yes.. that noise is normal, and it annoys me everytime I ride as I keep thinking something is wrong with my bike! lol..
