My rear brake pedal does not light the brake light unless I depress the rear brake pedal extremely forcefully - I have to lock up my rear wheel before the brake light engages. The front brake works normal - the brake light lights as soon as I engage the lever.
How can I adjust the sensitivity of my rear brake pedal so that it lights the brake light with much less pressure applied to the pedal?
The rear brake switch is activated by the brake fluid being compressed by the pedal movement, your switch could going away. The pedal adjustment is done by turning in the brake pedal rod at the master cylinder.
Mine does too and I only have 2700 miles on my bike. It doesn't lock up though. Either way you're suppose to use both brakes and the front is usually the first and last brake I touch, so I don't worry about it.
If you have to stand on the brake pedal to get it to work and it works each time you do it, you have a bad switch (been there, done that). If it were dirty or loose contacts it wouldn't matter how hard you stepped on the pedal, and it doesn' t matter how new or how old the switch is, it can still be bad.
