Default Just installed XiED on '08 FXDL

My brand new 105th FXDL has just over 150 miles on it. It is two weeks old. Totally stock bike. During the first 150 miles I could tell that the exhaust heat on the upper right leg was going to be an issue for me. On both 90+ degree days the heat at stoplights would roast my right thigh and run up the leg. Even at low, city driving speeds it was very hot and uncomfortable. So, reluctantly I went ahead a bought the Nightrider XiED hoping it would help the heat. They came today. Here is what I can tell so far after a short 20 mile ride in 74 degree weather with the XiED's installed.
  • I can not tell much difference in the engine or exhaust sound. It sounds similar to me. I did have another HD guy tell me at the gas station that my bike was too quiet, he said he could hardly hear me coming.
  • I can tell a big difference in throttle response from a standing stop. It is quicker and much, much, smoother. Almost amazingly smoother.
  • I noticed much less lugging and jerking of the bike in first gear at low throttle with the clutch all the way released. The bike feels much smoother as I pull away from a stop and roll on and off the throttle in first gear.
  • Acceleration above 40 MPH is similar, to perhaps slightly better. It is so close that it is a non-issue or benefit. Hard for me to tell.
  • Deceleration popping was never an issue before I had the XiED's so I cannot tell any difference. No popping backfire either way.
  • I have not gotten any error codes.
  • The heat issue is still undetermined. It was too cool today to tell if it will make much difference. It felt cooler, but the outside air temperature is way cooler and not a fair comparison. Even if the heat is the same, I am keeping the XiEds. The silky smooth acceleration is a big plus in-itself.
  • If the heat is lower, it will be a home run.

10 minutes tops. Just make sure you have a few black zip ties. They helped keep the wires snug and away from any heat or friction.

Looks like the guys wanting to sell them have PCV's - there really is no need for them if you're running a tuner - the idea behind the XIED's is to trick the ECU into thinking that the bike is running leaner than it is so it will richen the air fuel mix.

My experience is similar to the original poster's. These things do work for their intended purpose, which is to slightly richen the mixture during closed loop operation. They are not and were never intended to be a performance mod like a full-out ECM tuner.
