....... These new ones have a gradual transition from 1.25" - 1". I didn't like it. I called and wanted to exchange them. Chris explained the transition would be hidden when controls were installed. He was half right. On the brake side, yes the transition is hidden but not on the clutch side.....
The problem is that they need to cover all bases with one set of bars. The square transition works with your late model master cylinder, but will cause interference with older master cylinders and most non HD controls, so a taper or flat spot is required. The clutch side is tapered to accept hydraulic clutches, which would have the same clearance issues on that side. You have found the down side - without a hydraulic clutch, the controls do not hide the taper on that side.
Yeah. I started the swap tonight about 10 minutes after I got back from picking it up around the corner. Some say that's 9min and 59 seconds too long.
I was gettin tore up by the skeeters so I'll do more tomorrow. Maybe get it done. Who knows. I have plans to ride down to Augusta,GA saturday. Hopefully I won't be in my truck for that ride.

I don't disagree with you. The gradual transition is growing on me. I don't know.
