I try to maintain 2500 rpm no matter what gear, and speed limit dependant. The bike seems to like it, and its nearing its "power band" in case I need to get on it.
The manual says bump 1 gear up per 10 mph, so I use that for down shifts.

True she will hum there all day long! when i am in 6th at around 2500 that puts me somewhere around 68- 73... i can just crack it and she will pull no problem! never used to do that till i put in the BCT baffles... love it... she runs so strong lately... great in all aspects except for the TIRE aspect... getting there!

I don't like 6th any thing less than 70-75 too sluggish. last week i was testing my set up and reached 85 in third and that baby wanted to give me more! If you want to check your top end some day keep it in 5th a while and see! I know it still pulls hard in sixth but 5th goes a long way!

My Harley will top out higher in 5th than it will in 6th on a level road, or an uphill grade. Even with the extensive headwork it has, it is unable because of drag limits to go faster in 6th than 5th.

My minimum cruising speed for 6th is 65mph.

Great replies and great thread. This one fits me best. I will downshift to 5th on the interstate around here a good bit, usually at 60 and keep it there until just before 70. I seldom get it out of 4th on my daily commutes and running around business. I love how this bike pulls and I'm running pretty much stock other than slip-ons.

If I stick to the speed limit on the interstate I never see 6th gear. 70+ for 6th.

I don't use 6th until 65 or 70. below that I'm in 5th. Mine runs smoother at around 26-2800rpm's.
