I just did my 1000 service on my '06 FXDLI and some of the nit-picking things I've noticed are: The low-fuel light seems to come on extremely early, sometimes above half a tank; All the fasteners are really cheap and prone to corrosion ( I bet the dealer will be happy to sell me all chrome ones for over inflated prices); the cover behind the indicator lights is poorly designed and will come loose and develop an annoying rattle; the speedo intermittently will drop and then resume the correct speed again. Anyone have similiar things happen? The fuel light is the one that concerns me most. All of these were addressed by the dealer, but they didn't have an answer for the fuel light or the speedo, although they thought maybe some water had gotten in the speedo. Any ideas?? The fuel light has been discussed at length. I just use the tripmeter. Mine comes on at about 1/4 tank.
Haven't noticed any corrosion. No speedo problems. The only thing in 1500 miles I would consider a real
problem is the chrome cover for the indicator lights. Mine rattled like crazy when I drove it out of the dealer.
I put a bead of RTV around the edge and probelm is solved. It was very annoying. Other than that I have
had no problems. I am 100% satisfied. I just switched from a very nice Honda(Blackbird) so I was a
tough customer. No complaints, grinning from ear to ear! Pending rain every day this week, no riding,
this sucks! If those non chrome bolts get funky on my ride it's getting stainless.
I actually am thinking of calling this bike the rainmaker. I've been rained on over half of the times I've been out. That's no fun. I took the indicator light cover off because I couldn't take it any longer. I'll see if I can find previous posts on the fuel light. Are you doing rolling thunder? I think there's a group of us going up from tidewater. Later
On the speedo...I have heard that if you kill the engine with on/off switch and then turn the key off that reduces the electronic inpulse which can affect the speedo somehow. I have over 5,000 miles on my bob and have used the switch 95% of the time and have no speedo problems. My fuel light comes on at 1/8 which is about 150 miles.
The low fuel light will come on if you turn the key while the bike is on the jiffy stand. If you stand it up and then turn it off and on it should go out. But it is still not a very accurate gauge or light. I always use the tripmeter. I have not noticed any problems with the speedo on my bike.
Where is tidewater? I'm in Stevensville, MD. I'm getting confused on all the rides! Not a bad thing.
I had no idea how many "rides" there would be. When is rolling thinder?
Tidewater is the Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake area of Virginia, and is also called Hampton roads. I have no idea why. Overall I'm very happy with my latest Harley. They also installed the rhinehart 2 into 1's which REALLY brought the motor to life. Later
