A lot depends on how you ride, and keeping the air pressure adjusted. If you are always sliding to a stop and braking hard, well the tires wear out faster.

Thumbs up New Tires

I just put on a new set of the Michelin Macadam 50 tires, Macadam 50E 100/90-19 front and Macadam M50 170/60-17 rear, this is the new rear tire that Harley has advertised on their website for the FXDC part #43250-07. I have been running the Metzeler ME880's front and rear for the last 2 years but did not get the same mileage wear as the stock dunlops but just loved the performance however I did not want to pay big $$ for new tires and the cheapest Metzelers I could find online would have cost $350.00 before mounting and balancing costs so I decided to look for a less expensive option. I have always had great experiences with Michelin tires for cars and I found a set online of the new Macadam tires from Motorcycle superstore for around $200 with free shipping. Mounting and high speed balancing cost another $25.00 per tire. I then headed out on a 2000 mile trip around the State of California which ran the tires through almost every kind of road and weather condition possible including 2 up and solo riding.

I would highly recommend these tires for the FXDC. As far as their performance and handling goes they feel great and was immediately noticeable while turning with incredible response when hard cornering even in wet conditions. We'll have to see how long they last but I figure if I can get between 8-10k miles on em' then they're well worth the 100 bucks or so I didnt spend on the Metzelers. Just my 2 cents.

I think the OE Dunlops are good tires. I switched over to Avon’s, but I will be going back to the stock Dunlops. I didn't notice any improvement in handling with the Avon's. The only thing I notice was my mileage dropped with the Avon's. I got about 2,000 miles less than with the OE tires.

I was only getting about 6500 miles out of the stocker anyway. I'm at 2K miles so far on the Storm and seems to be wearing pretty good. At this rate, I think it'll make the same mileage as the Dunlop, while getting a better handling tire. If I do make 6500 or so with the Storm, I think I'll probably stick with them.

I'm 250 pounds and ride an '09 FXD and just changed my stock Dunlop rear tire at 10,500 miles. If I'd felt like it, I probably could have put another 500 miles on it. Because of that kind of mileage though, I'm going to stick with Dunlops.
