Glad to hear you and your boy are OK. It takes a BIG man to admit his faults, therefore my hat is off to you for being able to come on here and admitting that. It seems as if the lessons we learn from ourselves are the toughest we learn in life. I thank you for this thread as it now has me thinking of when riding with the wife on the back to not become so complacent. Take care and ride safe.
Glad to hear you and your son are okay. Accidents always seem to happen in the blink of an eye, so it's hard to prepare for them. I've been there on locking up the rear tire, sometimes it happens so quickly your adrenaline gets the best of you and you over do it. Anyhow, this is the risk we take when we ride...
Same thing happened to me and my wife on my 79 Sporty years ago..luckily we didn't go down. But my wife said the ambulance bumper missed our rear fender by inches...scared the Hell outta me!
But I don't understand how you can crash on your own doing only 40 and in a strait line !
I kind of estimated my speed @ 40 mph which may had been a little faster. I don't know. as far as going down in a stright line? I don't know. all I know is it happen fast and I was down. a witness said I was fish tailing before I went down. I don't remember that happening. I was shock by it all. I remember hitting my brakes and hitting the asphalt.
I knock the windsheild off the bike scrape up both turn signals lights on the left side. bent the highway peg. bent the shifter rod. scrape the paint on the front fender but not bad. scrape the clutch controls pretty good. damage the clutch cable. scratch the chrome on the primary case housing, but not to bad. whats unbelievable to me is that the tank didn't get damage. the bike really came thru it pretty good. I was surprize
Glad all is well with you and your son!! Everyone here has had to,or will "panic stop" in the future. Reaction takes over and when that rear end starts coming around it is a sick feeling. Great attitude by the way....
glad you both are ok! My buddy actually went down this past sat. group ride, he was leading, and i was behind him. he went into a hairpin turn and just misjudged it. next thing i know i see him hit the gaurd rail on the right, the the bike slams down on the left, landing on top of his leg. to avoid hitting him i slam on the break and t bone the gaurd rail. i was going slwo enough that i didnt get hurt, or cause any real damage to my bike. My friend on the other hand suffered a broken right leg, jsut above the ankle. He hit one of the posts on the gaurd rail. He is actually gettign out of surgery this very moment. they had to put a plate and a couple screws in. mind this all happened going 5mph... anyway, didnt mean to hijack the thread, awesome that you and your son are ok. bikes are rebuildable, life is not. count your blessings, and make sure not to take for granted the important things.
