I am happy to hear you and your son are doing well. That could have been worse.
I would recommend that you practice your quick stops with a passenger. I always practice quick stops in a controlled envoriment.
My wife would always ride with me when i would practice quick stops in a empty parking lot near my house. She always hated doing it. Then one do a car ran a red light and I was able to perform a quick stop with out even thinking about it.
My wife now asks me if I want to go practice quick stops.
Respect for our bikes, is one thing we can never forget..Even minor accidents can have major results.
Glad Ur OK. some aren't.
We always have to look and listen and be more aware of our surroundings when riding, should be anyway while driving cage, but even more so on the bike.
Does your state require helmets? Just curious. Glad your boy made it through without injury. That's the main part.
I NEVER ride without either my leather jacket or if it's too hot outside my "Draggin" kevlar shirt. Here is a link to their site. I have the full lower liners to wear under my jeans and one of their shirts.
Not only do I live in a retirement community, but also a rural area where deer are out and about all the time....... so between elderly drivers and the wildlife population, It's not a matter of "IF"......it's "WHEN"......and personally, I'd prefer my skin to stay attached.
Hope you get to feeling better soon.......
I'm really glad you both got through that one in good shape. Like others have been saying, kudos to you on realizing your mistake and learning from it. Too many times in situations just like this you hear "I had to lay it down" as if they did it on purpose.
Emergency vehicles are supposed to stop for red lights, even when running lights and sirens. Glad your both ok.
Ditto that! You should never make any admissions at an accident scene as you don't have your full wits at the time and you may not really know what actually happened, only from your perspective.
I only use my highway pegs when on the open road and not in town but have to admit, even then, I feel kind of goosey! I was on the pegs one day when I noticed a deer that was starting to cross in front of me. Talk about sitting up straight in a hurry

Went down over the weekend. One of my first thoughts after I stopped rolling was that I was glad my wife hadn't been on the back like we planned. Glad y'all are ok. It's definitely a wake up and smell the roses moment.
I hope this thread convinces a few more folks that God is not dead, and he is out there watching out for us. I always practice panic stops, swerving. Your body will do what your muscle memory is conditioned to do in a emergency, you create the response by practice. That is why pilots have emergency checklists and practice them.

God Bless.

I agree with what you said about God, but I realized I haven't put a motorcycle into a slide since I was 14 years old or so. It was second nature. I have a bruise on my chest to prove it and a wheel turned completely to the left up under a bike to prove it too.
Panic stops, Ride Like a Pro, practicing what-ifs in your head are good things to do.
I am very glad to hear you and your son are ok. I have been thinking of takeing my grandson for a ride he is 5 1/2 and will be starting school soon. But still thinking on it.
