Default Clutch Adjustment Question?

I am aware from reading that the clutch is supposed to be adjusted at room temperature. From this, I know that temperature has to have an effect on the clutch. My clutch is adjusted to where I have between 1/8 and 1/16 inch gap at the clutch lever (I believe that you call this free play), please correct me if I am wrong. The 1/8 to 1/16 inch is measured with bike cold and temperature at around 70 to 75 degrees. My question is this, is it normal for this gap to increase to about 1/4 inch after bike has been rode in 90 to 95 degree temperature?

All cables will stretch...especially when there new. It's ok, I would check it always, its easy enough.

you mean it stretches 1/4 inch when hot and goes back to 1/16 when cold?....in that case I would say no not normal as mine never does that . I was checking the clutch handle sunday after a long ride and had about 1/16 play.

that is a cable adjustment not the clutch adjustment.

Like dyna07 sez, that's just the cable adjustment and not the clutch adjustment

I do believe that I understand this just being a cable adjustment issue. It does seem to vary between 1/8 or a little less to about 1/4 inch depending on the temperature. In my situation, I am hoping that it is going to be OK. Shifting seems to be normal.

My cable adjustment might loosen up just a little bit, but not that much. Maybe from 1/16 to to 3/32... but not 1/4.

The temperature affects the clutch pack adjustment, not the cable adjustment. Two different things there.

You are correct about the room temp/ambient temp for the clutch adjustment. If the 1k mile check was done by the dealer the cable may have been adjusted it to their specs.
