Default New EPA Rules

Heres the scoop, I guess starting now they are implementing the new standards for the 2006 bikes. The way they are gonna do this is eventually every state is gonna require a physical inspection to get your yearly tags. If the bike is emmitting to many bad carbons then you will not pass and not get ur tags causing you not to be able to ride. He said they really are not concerned about the loudness of the pipes what they are concerned about is the pollution that the bikes give off. You are gonna have to pass the inspection for the year of bike that you have and the laws that were in place for that year.

So if I were you guys who have modded the bike, make sure you keep the stock parts such as exhaust and so forth so you can install them prior to inspection. He said if you mess with the engine IE.. 95ci kits and so on that you may not pass and have to spend some money fixing it first. Sounds like BS but he said its already inplace its just a matter of time before every state will have mandatory physical inpections to get your tags.

Has anyone else heard of this. and could possibly elaborate if you can. Thanks

He said this is gonna make the older bikes a lot more valuable because the restrictions for there years were alot less and thus will be able to modify there bikes more than someone with an 06 per say. I think the bike industry as a whole would take a big hit for this and somehow someway this will get worked out, I am hoping.

We used to have state inspections in FL but the program was closed many years ago. Costs too much money to operate. I sincerely doubt it will be reimplemented in the foreseeable future. The EPA can put all the regulations into place it wants but it's up to the states to enforce them. It's also highly unlikely it will be reimplemented just to catch polluting motorcycles at a cost of billions to taxpayers.

Yeah.......and Clinton didn't inhale........LOL We have auto inspections but doing motorcycles would be a nightmare......they would have to put your bike on a dyno or disassemble the ignition and hook up to the ECM? Either one spells disaster for the state because of the damage that the gorillas at the Echeck station would do to all the different brands of bikes and different ignitions. Alll auto's have an OBDII plug to plug diagnostics into. The older ones go onto a dyno with a plug into the exhaust. After scratching about 5-10 really nice bikes (or worse) and the resulting lawsuits.....the end result would not justify the means.

I'm also glad FL ditched emmissions. For years, I had to do the once a year "put the stock H pipe with cats" back on my Mustangs, pay 10 bucks and then go back breaking the law! Glad those days are over.

All I can say is, I rode both of my previous bikes for years and never even got them inspected. The cops never even bothered to look. That said, anyone who is worried about failing an inspection...just find a dealer (Harley or other) that does inspections. All you have to do is throw the guy a couple bucks and it's a done deal. That's what I did when I finally did get my last bike inspected. And the only reason I did it was because it was already in the shop for a service. The tech pointed out that my bike didn't have a sticker. I laughed and said it never did. He said, he'd give me one for a twenty spot. So if I ever decide to get my harley inspected (after the new moto sticker expires), and I go to the DMV and they fail me...I'm just gonna go to this guy at the Yamaha dealer. He'll hook me up.

Anyone know if my bike would fail...the only thing that I've done (other than bolt on chrome/accessories) is the stage 1 and SE IIs???
Thanks

Todd

Hey I am not saying that its a good thing. I know in VA they did an inspection and stuck something in the exhaust to measure the amount of pollutants. I dont know how much extra that would cost do that for motos. Hey I hope it nevers happens as well. What about cali. Dont they already have coverters on their bikes. Do they test their bikes on a yearly deal.
