I have had issues with my shoulders/biceps/neck for a while.
The problem I am noticing is that even when the shoulder is not hurting it does so very quick after I start riding. I haven't had the WideGlide that long...but I think there is something there.
I didn't have this issue on previous bikes. But can't tell if its the bar and foot placement or not.
Even when I am relaxing my arms...it seems the position aggravates the ache.
Now, I'm riding through it but I am wondering if anyone else has had anything similar and if a different style handlebar might work. I love the bike so its not going anywhere soon...that's for sure.
I recently started experiencing the same neck/shoulder pain which is definitely aggravated by riding. I alternate seats and there is a relationship in the seat height/positioning and the time before the pain sets in. Another thing is I just started experimenting with the handlebar angle by adjusting them closer to me. Minor adjustments help but in my case I'm attributing most of this to just getting old. Let me know if you find something that really helps.

VERY interesting. I have recently changed seats from the stock to a touring seat. If I think back..the shoulder pain seemed to have been worse with the new seat. Of course there were also some non-riding things that have also aggravated it during that time. I think I will try to go back to the other seat for a bit to see.
Will also move the bars forward a tad to experiment....
Last year, I really started to have problems with my right shoulder. Especially when I took the bike for a 30 day vacation. I noticed the front end was slamming a bit on bumps. changing the fluid didn't help. I ended up putting in a gold valve for other reasons but it definately makes a difference. My shoulder hasn't bothered me yet this season.
Good call on trying the lower bars, several forum members have had trouble with the mini apes causing the arms and shoulders to get sore or loose feeling in the arms and hands while riding. Try going to a lower bar or lower bars with more pull back. I think that it may be due to diminished blood flow in the individuals arms and hands. Does not effect everyone but a few do seem to experience the same problem.
Also, if you had a shoulder injury... they take lots of time, months to heal. In that case, about the only healthy thing to do is rest it, or ride through it till winter and rest it then.
Try to figure out your most relaxed position on your bike. Put your bike on the lift, sit on it, close your eyes and stretch your arms with relaxed shoulder/neck muscles towards the handlebar. Open your eyes in this position and check if your handlebar has to be adjusted to this position. If necessary make the adjustment and try it out on your next ride.
