Lowrider Drag Bar Solution.......
I decided to go with a set of Flanders 18 degree drag bars, and first tried mocking them up on the stock risers quickly realizing that the turn signals would definitely be a problem. I personally don't like the look of the turn signals mounted on the fork, so I went down to the dealer and got the same turn signal mount kit that's found on the fat bob (53968-06A). This almost solved my problem, but with the handlebars turned full right, the turn signal was still hitting the top of my gas cap. I dealt with this for a while and rode the bike for about 100 miles one weekend (It dented and scratched the hell out of my gas cap though). I'm 5'10" tall and the stock risers with drag bars had a little too much reach for me, so I next looked into changing out the risers for the 6 1/2" Harley
pullbacks which are advertised to fit a 2008 Lowrider. Well, they lied! Those risers require the use of a handlebar clamp that has offset bolt holes, not bolt holes that are parallel with each other like the stock Lowrider clamp. I attempted to use a handlebar clamp off an 03 Sportster since it has the cut-out for the instrument lights, but the chrome shroud from the stock lowrider would not fit properly. I couldn't find any manufacturer out there that made a set of risers that would work with that damn stock Lowrider clamp! Finally, I stumbled across Spacer Jim's website (www.spacerjim.com). I contacted him and gave him the dimensions for the stock Lowrider risers. He fabricated a set of 1" tall 6061 polished aluminum spacers for me that match the finish of the stock risers perfectly, and provided the right amount of rise for clearance and comfort!! He charged me $45 and all I had to do was buy a 1" longer bolt (grade 8 of course). If you visit his website and follow the link for Harley products, then click on the links for "Harley" and "Lowrider" across the top of the page, those are actual pictures of my bike that he had requested. I did have to change the brake line and throttle, idle, and clutch cables, so I went with the diamond back cables while I was at it. I'm very happy with the end result! Hopefully this post will keep some of you from the running around I had to do........
Of course, in the process I fell in love with street slammer-style T-bars, which still require me to relocate those damn clamp-mounted lights. Oh well.
