I don't know anything about the wide glide tradition. This bike was the only one that really called out to me when I was trading up from my sportster and I am really enjoying it.
Wide Glides to me are the 70's chopper I've always dreamed of owning since I was a kid. A mean and lean chromed machine. I prefer lots of chrome, two toned paint and apehangers.
For all of you that are sittin on the fence over this post about the bike in question, because the only image(s) you have seen of the new FXDWG are in a brochure or on the websites, and you haven't yet been able to eyeball one up close at a dealer or a friends place and/or you haven't been able to take a test ride, Be prepared, because when the original WG 1st came out it wasn't an immediate hit either. Everyone still just wanted the FL's. Just rode one home three months ago and I am still very impressed with it's handling, she will scrape the pegs cornering with that fatty out back and the skinny up front, so She'll go where you point her. Overall ride height and ergonomics (I'm 6'4') fits me like a glove and overall characteristics and athstetics are top notch. Are there things I'd change? Sure. There are thinge to change on every bike and I've begun the few mods on this scoot that I feel necessary. Kinda sounds like the perfect companion for me and she doesn't eat much and hasn't complained yet and I don't expect her to.So far SHE'S A CHEAP DATE. So go try one on in person and make sure you've talked to you're banker about pre-approval because you'll be writing a check.
WOW...I never realized that the the Wide Glide is the the only HD with a wide glide front end.... Does the moco company know that too? How many softails currently and past have the same front end?
The "glide" definition if I'm not mistaken, comes from the configuration of the frontend of the motorcycle. The WG frontend is not the widest in their line up. I's just the style.
Like the flames and the dashboard. AND the raked front end.
But HD could have done something really great with the model, as they have all the parts on other Dyna models.
I suspect they want the Softail Custom to take the place of what the Wide Glide was. It is a great looking bike.
The Softail Convertible CVO may be an alternative. ???
the savannah dealer has a red softail custom. it is the epitome of late 70's cool
