Question 500 Mile Oil Change?

Dealer said to have an oil change at 500 then again at the 1000 miles service. If both aren't performed by the dealer could create issues for warranty claims in the future. Any truth to a 500 mile oil change? I see nothing in the manual about it. Also any truth re: warranty claims if you preform the service yourself?

I agree with Jay Stronghawk, changing the oil at 500 miles is not required in the manual but it is not a bad move. Most of the metal loss in a new engine occurs well before 500 miles. As for the dealers BS, have him produce it in writing or show you where it states that the dealer must perform any or all services in order to maintain your warranty

Yup, the dealer is blowing smoke.

I do and did however dump the break in oil at 500 as well. It's cheap insurance and a good idea to get that junk out of the motor.

Changing at 500 miles is not a bad idea as stated previously. All the dealer wants is more money out of you. Do yourself a favor and buy a service manual, oil and filter and do it yourself. Just keep your receipt.

A 500 mile oil change is not required....the first scheduled change is at 1000 miles. That said, it certainly can't hurt to do it at 500. Do it yourself though....the dealer will charge you over $100 to do it......

Nonsense! I've had one service done at the dealer (10K) cause it was convenient at the time. I had already done the three fluids. Never had anything done at selling dealer. Keep a record of what you do and when you do it and purchase receipts for fluids, filters, etc.

I agree with everyone else and I will add find a new dealer.

If any dealer ever threatened to not do warranty work with me, they would never see a dime of my money again.

As far as I am concerned the 500 and 1000 changes are a requirement regardless of what the manual says. Get all the initial seating grinds out, it will help your motor last longer. It's cheap insurance.
