Would like to dump the FXD type speedometer and move it somwhere else so it dont ruin the lines of the bike. Im thinking to upgrade to a wide-glide front end w/41mm tubes since I could not afford the wide-glide at the time of purchace and want a clean look. Anyone ever changed the speedo to a micro type and re-located it somewhere so it flows better w/the bike? Also has anyone converted to a tank-mounted bob configuration and what is involved?

Whattcha gonna do with the hole beneath the speedo? I ran into this when rebuilding my bike. I wanted to change over to a digital system, but couldnt figure a solution. I didnt want to go through the expense of changing out the tank, of which at the time there were only two choices for the 02 fxd's. The OEM tank or one from JP Cycle which had the one filler cap off to the right side of the tank.
So my next thought was to take off the speedo/tach console, weld a piece of sheet metal from the seat end of the tank to the neck end of the tank to cover up the cavity, then bondo and blend everything together. Then purchase the handlebar(dogbone) digital system ($$$) setup.
Should of went that route, but money was getting short, so I just stayed with the original OEM setup.
For what you already have...ditch the bulbous handlebar thing and go with a slim style low profile digital, and leave the tank setup as it is. It don't look bad.
I think sundown has a bar-mounted speedo and wants to move it to his tank or at least get something a lot less bulky. I've seen mirrors with speedo, tach and indicators built into them, but they'll set you back $500+ depending on the configuration you want.
Thought about this for awhile. Doing like a low rider set up would be too expensive even with a used tank. I had found complete tank/pump set up on e-bay but it didn't sell. Guess he wanted too much. Anyway, the mini gauge set up should work nicely and keep clean lines.
Thanks czissman, thats the ticket. I called alloy art and they said to just unplug the whole idiot light assembly and chuck it! But I think Ill use czissman's Idea and keep the idiot lights for now and hide the wires the best I can and see how it looks. Thanks guys, you all saved me from buying a new gas tank!
