$300 for slip-ons is a waste. Spend a little more, get a full exhaust system and more power. For more *real* power, get a 2-1...even though I love my 2-1 Thunderheader, the quality of the product (read: chrome) sucks. I'd suggest 2-1 Fat cat. it's a nice looking pipe to boot.

I did somehing similiar to just that MOD. but i didnt remove the baffles. I simply inserted a Bread crumb basket in front of it.

Good quality slip-ons will perform nearly as well as complete exhaust systems, and will be better than all of the systems that are designed just for looks. But, as others have said, you have to get more flow into the engine before you can see gains from more flow out of the engine. Definitely go with slip-ons if that's all you can afford right now, but I agree that $300 is way too much for just mufflers.

I was in the same boat as you when I bought my Street Bob, I had no funds for a full exhaust but still wanted a little better sound. I picked up the Cycle Shacks for about $100 and ran them until I got the scratch together to spring for a Thunderheader. They sound good and you can't beat the price. Good Luck with your new ride!

Appreciate the thought..I'm happy just waiting a year until I can afford it...no need to hurry, I'll have this dream of mine for a long long time

I only say that because I did the slip-ons, then full exhaust, so I'm speaking from experience. If you're able to drop $300 on slip-ons...add $200 and get yourself what you want. Unless you go for a cheap slip-on like cycle shacks or find a deal on SEII's...you'll lose your a$$ on the backend when you sell them. So spending a little more now, will save you money in the future. Simple economics. If you knew me, you'd know how utterly funny that last sentence really is. Economics, my a$$... lol

Although I did love my SEII slip-ons. Awesome sound and I was sad the day I sold them. These were the old style, and not the newer epa approved (read: quiet) SE pipes the dealers sell today.

Amen to that , same mistake here. Funny thing is I almost sold my rush slip-ons but they had got scratched in transit and the buyer declined. A support bracket on my exhaust broke night before last, now i'm back to the stock pipes / rush 1.75's until the parts get up here from california.

I remember that thread!
