Look into the Shark Evolve helmets. In my opinion it is probably the best modular out there. Its the only one I have seen that the mouth piece swings all the way back around the back of the helmet and you can ride this way with it opened. It also has that new dual lense system with the main clear lense and a retractable sun lense that slides out.
There are no questions that my next helmet will be one of these, when the wife will let me buy one....
I use to ride sport bikes exclusively and I had a few top of the line full face helmet, mainly the Arai RX-7 and Shoe X-11. Now that I have a Harley I went with the Shoei Multitech and a HD (KBC) Hybrid 1/2, both work great and I use them interchangeably given with the weather (hot vs mild/cold). My size is different between the three makers, so make sure you can try it on or return it if it doesn't fit right.
yeah.. take your time buying one....and keep these things in mind too..
1. If you don't make up your mind before the course, you can maybe borrow a helmet.
2. If you do buy one and don't like it, find one you do like, and you'll have an extra one for the folks you tote.
I dont' always wear a helment, but when I do (usually at higher speeds or longer trips) I prefer a full face for a few reasons:
I don't use a windshield on my bike, and a bird at 70 would be like gettin hit with a ball bat in the face. I had one hit my hand at 60 and it hurt like hell....that was at an angle too...not straight on, so it glanced off pretty good.
Bugs...some nights when I'm goin out, or even just traveling to partake in the drinking of the goddess juice, the damn bugs are so thick it drives me crazy. Then I'm pickin em off my face, out of my hair, etc. Much easier and less frustrating to wipe off a faceshield.
Rocks/sand comin off trucks or getting picked up by tires.
Rain
cold
more protection during wreck..naturally
wind/sun burn is reduced...thus lowering the rudolph and raccoon factor...and maybe even aging and skin cancer over a long period.
and of course the cheek rippling in the wind is reduced...which is amazingly attractive to the opposite sex......lol.
Theres a few drawbacks too though...harder to get on an off a little, more heat, though you can open the shield to help some (not at speed). Harder to talk to people with it on for sure.....which does help protect you in two ways though...one, keeps you from being able to smart off so easily, and then if they try to punch you in the mouth.. lol...
