I've done a search, but what I found is old. I'm looking for anyone who has, or had, a Hawk GLD series Modular Helmet. I've heard the you get what you pay for statement. I hate full face helmets. I wear a half helmet. The only reason I'm considering getting a modular helmet is for long trips with rain. I'm planning a trip this summer for about 10 days. I thought a modular helmet would be nice while riding in the rain.
I never owned a Hawk helmet but I have read that their good helmets for the money, and I think it should serve the purpose you want it for. However, it all depends on fit. Different companies make different shaped helmets for different shaped heads....round, oval, narrow etc.
A modular is a good choice, especially for someone who doesn't like full face helmets. I have a modular for the same reasons you want one....cold weather and rain mostly. One great thing is that if want to spit at a red light or slow speeds, just lift and let it fly. LOL I think this helmet also has the drop down sun visor, that'll come in handy as well.
The only 2 things I would be concerned about this helmet is the fit, and if you wear eye glasses, some helmets don't seem to have the room on the sides to allow your glasses to fit. But basically, if it fits your head, I think you'll be happy with it.
I've got a Hawk H-6611, similar to the GLD from what I can tell. I'm very happy with it. I use it mostly for colder weather riding and it keeps my melon nice and warm. The face piece flips up easily and the drop down tinted visor has nice coverage. It's not heavy and handles the Oklahoma wind just fine. On warmer days, the top vent keeps things cool and I typically pop the main visor up a peg to let some air in.

How's the sizing. I just measured my melon and it's 61 cm.
Well I ordered the GLD904 in xl... I should have ordered the xxl. It wasn't even close to fitting. I measured my melon and it measured out at 61mm. That was with a loose tape. I should have been in a large. I sent it back and ordered the xxl. I hope it fits.

I have that problem too when it comes to a precise fit without trying them on.
FF and Modulars fit totally different than 3/4 or beanies- the cheek weld and chin placement makes all the difference in online sizing.
Something like a convertible Roof Boxer V8 may be a good compromise.
