Power Commander ordered
Received the PC III & a K&N air kit last night 269.00 & 129.00. Got them from Fuel Moto.Installed them this morning.(15 Minutes My ***). Took Me almost 2 Hrs.to do both. Went for a 10 mile ride, all seems well. Fxdci 06 with D&D slip ons.
With only the addition of the new exhaust and a SE A/C, I'd say go with a download or cheaper fuel remap method. I bought the PCIII because it can be tuned to a more finite degree and because I hope to go up in cubes within the next year. Is there a real difference now with how my bike performs? Yes, it's a lot louder and looks as cool as Mr. Freeze with aviators on. It's a little faster sure. I'd say with my current mods it may be a little quicker than if I had a download. But again, I bought the PCIII for future use as much as anything. One other thing about my PC is that the "techs" at my dealer claim to be #1 with that unit but for mechanics those guys couldn't fix a sandwich.
Hopefully this isn't too stupid of a question. When I put new Python slip-ons and a SE A/C on my Road King I had the dealer do a re-map. I think it cost me about $149 for the re-map. I was never that impressed with the upgrade. It sounded a whole lot better than stock, but it didn't seem to gain much extra power and backfired a lot on decel.
I now have a new 06 Street Bob and will be putting on slip-ons and a SE A/C. What is the difference between the dealers $149 re-map and installing a Power Commander. Is the PC easy to install yourself and if you do install it yourself do you have to have the dealer do any work at all, or does the PC take care of everything. It seems that if you did not have to go to the dealer it would be worth the extra money for the PC, so that if you changed your setup later you could change the settings on the PC yourself. Could you install a PC, then add parts gradually, i.e a SE A/C, then later (read more cash) the slip-ons?

Federal Law states that unless they perform the service for free, they can not require you to pay them to perform the service as a condition of the warranty. In other words, unless they are willing to do the service for free, you can do it yourself and not void the warranty. You will hear them, the service department, say something like, "If we perform the service, it will not void your warranty," which is correct. But that statement does not mean that not having them perform the service will void the warranty.
However...
The installation of an item by the dealer that would violate federal emissions laws could put the dealer and the owner in a pickle. Everyone has looked the other way until recently.
Im am shocked you havent installed it yet especailly with our baffle set up

I have heard from one person, that after installing his PCIII, though the bike ran awesome, it idles a little a higher. Anyone else notice this with a PCIII?

Interesting, I took mine to the dealer and ask about the hesitations (ie.. coughing) and it surges. At first they gave me a load of you know what that this is just inherant with the bike, so I called his BS and I found on this site a bulletin by Harley about this problem,
M-1185. So I went back to the stealer and ask to have the old 8 deg. injectors replaced with the new 25 deg. ones as per the bulletin. They at first were reluctant then finally gave in. Now at this time I had at home Vance&Hines short shots, SEII A/C stage 1 kit and the PCIII. I asked them if I put all this on, will they still do the bulletin work. They told me "No, you have voided the Warranty". So basically I told him ok, for now it will be stock when you get it, replace the injectors and then I will install the items. As you can tell I really dispise this stealer, dirty if you ask me, but no where close to have this done. So as I sit here writing this they have my bike and better be putting in the new injectors. Then tonight and tomorrow I will be putting on the "Extras"! Can not wait!
As far as maps for the PCIII, I emailed Power Commander and they said that this month they will be uploading alot more maps on the website for all kinds of upgrades. Very simple to download the maps to the unit.
