For those of you who think this is a bad idea, will not work, or will not look good........
I found this while looking for covers for my engine guard. I don't know how it is mounted, but it looks to me like this guy has a Dyna that can go the distance while others are picking bugs out of their teeth or huddled under a bridge during a rain storm. And when he takes it off, he can profile down mainstreet too. Best of both worlds.
wow,all he needs now is a tourpak.and then he has a eletraglide.i use a tourpak on my bob, when i go on long distance trips.and it works awesome, for me and the wife.then when you get to were you want .then you strip it down at the hotel, now you have your streetride on vacation.but i wouldnt use my tourpack or that fairing he has on a everyday basis.i wouldnt go as far as that fairing though, ill stick with my windshield.i see it as best of both worlds thier.2 bikes in 1.some people will laugh and some people will like it.everyone has diffrent opinions on everything in life.but i bet after that guy rides a 2000 mile trip he isnt tired.or a bad case of long arms.but thats his bike not mine,so i have to say good job

Man,
This is EXACTLY what I need for my SuperGlide to get through the winter. My biggest problem is keeping my hands warm.
You meatheads are obviously wrong about the front end of the Dyna model.
It is NOT a Sportster front end. Used to be, but maybe you guys need to buy an older used Dyna without the 49mm forks.
The Dyna is not a light weight motorcycle at 650 lbs.
The additional weight should help preclude some of the wobble in the front end when the rearend has an additional 200 lbs. of gear on it when traveling down the road at 75-100 mph.
Hats off to the guy wanting a little extra protection when going cross country.
I agree with you totally. I just bought detachable bags for my bob and my buddies with softails laugh until were 100 miles somewhere else and they had just bought something....now their all hey can i put these in your bag. Only for long treks is when theyre on, most of the time theyre off.
There's a used FXR sitting at my local dealership with a factory fairing on it. I didn't think much of it at the time untill I saw this tread. It's a frame mounted fairing. This thing is butt-ugly. It looks just like a mid 80's metric sport-tourer. I kept looking for an in-line four engine on it.
There is actually a fairing available for any 04-07 (two different models 04-05 and 06-07) Dyna except for the Wide Glide (http://www.corbin.com/harley/dyna/hdfxdfair.shtml). However, I don't think you want one on a Bob and it's bolt on so I don't know how detachable it would be. I have a quick release touring windshield for my low rider and up to about 70 mph it is nice. After that, the buffeting starts getting pretty bad, BUT, I have beenbetween90 and wide open for more than 30minutes with it on so it is usable at high speeds. You won't cut out the wind but it will be rerouted and slowed down by the time it hits you so it's not trying to push you off the bike.
for the guys on here who are like "well i got a street bob for cruzin' and an electra glide for tourin' why don't you do the same"
well cause a lot of us i on here can't afford it, god bless you if its within your means but i bought my bob because it was like a blank canvas to do with what i will, so yes i got a windshield highway pegs sundowner seat saddlebags backrest you name it, all detachable i load it up to ride distance and strip it all down in minutes like i have it today, its all solo with nothin' on it except the trow over bags
freebyrd
i don't know how heavy you guys think a fiberglass outerfairing is but it's not going to be much heavier than your quick detach w/s. It doesn't have an inner fairing or stereo. Mounting thishttp://www.corbin.com/harley/dyna/hdfxdfair.shtml on your bob isn't going to feel any different than riding with a windshield.
If dynas 39mm or 49mm front ends weren't built to handle these then they shouldn't either have windshields mounted to them.....or luggage or heavy riders etc etc
I'm not planning on mounting a fairing to my bike but I certainly wouldn't be worried about the forks being able to handle 'all' the extra weight.
Sounds like your kinda serious about doing this and.....................I think the one you may want to contact on this forum would be (jackyl) read his profile, he may have a modest answer for you
jist my .02 worth

That's what you get for trying to be a "Rebel", "Non-Conformist", "Individual" on a Biker forum!!!
I'm rather in the same situation... Have ONE bike that I resurrected from the "Dead" (Salvage Rebuildable), and using it to enjoy and gain experience with! My initial revulsion with the "Road Sofas" is mellowing and I'm beginning to see some things I like about them. Overnight PGR missions (and usingthe bikefor utilitarian purposes) have caused me to stick on some hard bags... Some of our famous Florida Thunderstorms have caused me to consider a windshield. I've been thinking about a 16 inch front wheel as well! Utilitarianism is thekey for me! Can't afford to buy a different bike and actually like the tinkering that goes along with personalizing the ride. By the way... If you can bolt it on, you can unbolt it off! So EVERYTHING is (within limits) "detachable"!!!
I love the minimalistic attitude of my wide glide, but my God, sometimes those Touring Bikes look mighty comfortable!!!
here is a link for you!! http://www.tsukayu.com/Fairing.htmm but, i think you could of bought a electric glide standard for what it will end up costing you to get a full fairing.
This is the fairing for the this site. I just ran a google search for dyna front fairing and found this. Maybe you should have done this so you wouldn't have caught so much ****.
