Why do some people who buy a new Harley always complain about the vibration, engine noise, and "hard" clutches???? Don't they do any research before buying one? HARLEYS VIBRATE and the engines MAKE NOISE (music, if you ask me). The clutch is what it is, always has been, and always will be (hopefully). If you can't handle a little noise and vibration, and aren't strong enough to pull the clutch, then buy a Honda or a Lincoln!! Heck, I know a woman who has been riding a Panhead (kickstart) for 18 years and doesn't complain about anything like that, and she's only 5'1" and about 110 lbs soaking wet.

That said, the solid mount Softails do have slightly more "felt" vibration than the rubber mount engines. The engines themselves all vibrate the about the same amount, although the Twinkies are slightly smoother than most EVOs. It's the mounting system that determines what you end up feeling in the handlebars. Personally, I don't care about the vibration. It's part of the Harleys' personality, just as much as it's unique sound is. Now if it's vibrating so bad that you can't see anything in the mirrors at all, and parts are falling off, then I'd give it a good looking over and possibly a tune-up.

My preference is the Dynas. They have an excellent engine mounting system. The bike is just as nimble on the twisties as my '76 XLCH, too. Lots of ground clearance and very accurate handling! My 1995 is the first Harley I've owned where I could actually read the license plate of the car behind me in the mirror. All the other's just showed you enough to realize that something was behind you.... which is really all that's needed, anyway.

I had no problem's owning ridged mounted, non balanced or non rubber mounted Harleys and will buy several more older bikes in the future without batting an eye towards vibration.

My '06 Dyna is the first isolated Harley I've owned and have to admit that I like the balance between the Paint shakers ridges mounts I'm used to and the smooth ride I get on the highway. I don't think I'd 'enjoy' any less vibration then this. These 'aint Honda's after all!

Exactly! I think what bothers me most about the "B" motors is that they're too smooth at idle.
