Default Chrome sliders installed - finally!

Been wanting to do this since spring when I got my chrome wheels on. Thanks to my service manual and a LOT of helpful hints and tips gathered on this forum and many pm's and emails back and forth with fellow forum members Bberck and PKellyMC, I got it done. Not counting the time I spent gathering information online and running around town gathering some metric tools I needed (thanks to the Showa forks being metric), I probably have about 4 hours of labor in this job. As with most 1 time only (per bike) mods, I could probably do it again in almost half the time.

All I had to take pix with right now is my cell phone but here's some before and after shots for those that were going to demand pix anyway.

Very nice! That chrome makes a huge difference on the front end. So it took 4 hours, but I know you gotta feel real good having done it yourself.

Looks great man!!!

I just need the chrome wheels like yours now. I hated putting the old wheel back on today after mounting a new tire.

2007...what did you find useful in the service manual when doing this job?

Other than that, congrats. It's kind of a sucky job I think...but worth it when you get done and it's all nice and shiny.

Vic, honestly all the manual helped me do was put into perspective what I read in past threads authored and/or contributed to by you, PKellyMC, and bberck. I was getting lost in the information quite a bit and jumping around from one to another so comparing what you guys did to the steps the manual lays out, I got a better picture of how what you guys did makes it more doable without all of the steps and tools the manual says you need. Like you guys, I didn't remove the forks from the trees and I improvised a device (large vice grips and some heavy rags) to keep the tubes from turning when I was trying to break the 12mm bolts loose. The biggest thing I had trouble with was getting the oil seals back down in the new tubes far enough. I didn't expect that. I thought the 12mm bolts would be the toughest things to deal with.

The only thing I really used the manual for was proper torque values for putting everything back together. Although, honestly, I couldn't figure out a reliable way to torque the 12mm bolts because of the tool (the 8 dollar 12mm hex key from Sears) I was using. So, I just tightened them as much as I could, placed my "device" back on each tube, and tapped the hex key with a hammer a little to snug them up even more.
