I've loved WGs since I first saw one in the early 80s. It's this style of motorcycle that I've always wanted....and it just so happens that it's the most expensive dyna. Part of that is because of all the chrome. But also, it is a different bike. The frame is different, as is the forks and bars. That said, I'm not sure that justifies the price difference. I like to think that if you want cool, you have to pay for it
Still...I'm a fan of all harleys...dynas, softails, and touring. In my opinion, what makes one bike look "cheap" compared to another (HD that is) is the lack of extras/chrome. Some folks really like the bare bones look...and it's pretty apparent that it's a large number of folks, based on the number of Bobs sold....I like the shiny stuff. If it makes my bike look more expensive...oh well. Maybe in another world, chrome is the "cheap" alternative.
I wasn't sure on the WG when I was ready for a new harley. I've had 2 other dyna lowriders and a fxrs,(also a bagger,Buell and sporties) but never had a 21" front wheel and nowhere near this much rake. I love this bike! My wife picked it out on looks-I was gonna get a streetbob. It just plain fits me. 9800 miles on my '07 since picking up in the end of May this year. All stock except for Krome Works slip-ons, windshield and back rest for the OL. Its my daily commuter and a decent tourer, plus its a beautiful bike to cruise on. It handles much better than it should, given its geometry. The 96" is a much better stock motor than my 88"s were. It would be damn hard to go back to a 5 speed again. Thanks for starting this thread. Keep the posts coming. Tim
