Default Dyno or Power Commander or Both

I have a 2009 Fat Bob and this weekend I am installing some V&H Shortshots. I am also going to be installing a heavy breather as well. My question is do I need to Dyno it after installation or do I need a Power Commander or should I do both? I have spent so much money lately that I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing.

I'm thinking I will just install the stuff and see how it runs from there. Just not sure of the dyno or PCV or both. Thanks ahead of time for any help I can get on this.

Peace

You can't dyno tune it without a tuner - either a power commander or something like that. If you are putting on a heavy breather and full pipes, you DO need to do something even if it's just a stage 1 download, xied's, fuelpak, or a tuner. Late model EFI bikes are setup to run on the lean side to begin with. Adding what you are putting on will only make it leaner. Too lean as a matter of fact.

You probably won't "need" to do anything, but you will probably want to. You will most likely have decel pop, backfire, run a little hotter, not run as smooth, and lose some power. You will not hurt anything, unless you drive with WOT most of the time. The ECU will eventually adjust the closed loop for cruising. Its things like idle, twisting the grip, and WOT where you will most notice the leaner condition..

You will have to think about what your ultimate goal is as there are a number of options for the tune. If you just want to ride, just install XiEDs and a fuel pack, or PCV, or use a TTS to tune it yourself, whatever you are comfortable with. I hear the TTS will get you pretty close to optimum performance, but if you really want it spot on, you should hire a good pro and install the system he recommends.

All great advice! Put on the parts you purchased and see how she runs. Forget the dyno if thats all your doing. The Stage 1 download might be all you need.

I have an 07 with SE stage 1 kit ( no down load ) and Rush 1.75 slip ons. Went with fuel pack first but did not like the way the bike ran. After many hours of searching and talking with the shop decided on XIED's. The bike ran cooler with them installed. Just recently removed the XIED's installed a PC-V ( retro fit ). Only been on 2 short rides since the installation but I am happy with the results.
There are many options out there. I agree if you are just looking to help the lean situation the XIED's will do that but they are not a magic fix all.

Later,
Joe

Thanks for the information, it's greatly appreciated. I think I am going to wait and see how everything runs once I have them all on and then look at tuning it. Thanks again for the help.

The person that is going to do the work for me suggested the power commander. After I purchased a lot of things for my bike I wasn't in the mood to drop $300 more dollars. Matter of fact I'm still not in the mood to do it but I will wait until I have everything on and see what the bike does. Most likely I will go with the PC. Thanks for the help with this.

What you've suggested is what I am going to do. The person that is going to do the work on my bike suggested the power commander so I wanted to see if there are other options because I don't want to pay $300 for something if I don't need to . Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

I'm not too familiar with the XIED's but I will look into them. Thanks for the help.

I have an 07 SB with Vance and Hines Big Shot Staggereds and I contacted Jamie at Fuel Moto for the PC. We went with the PC V and their version of the performance air kit. Nice thing is Jamie dials in the PC maps for your bike and accesories before sending it to you.
Nice people to deal with and prices are right.

Good Luck and good riding,
