Default First Upgrade?

Getting bike in April - 2010 Fat Bob.
Never owned A bike before.
What should be my first upgrade on the bike?
Wife has already expressed / demanded the seat be replace and a backrest installed.
I see so d@mn much stuff being talked about all over this forum that is being upgraded, that I really don't know what to start first. Thanks.

Rule #1: Listen to wife

Now, once you get the seat and backrest (so she will actually ride with you) you should take your time on the next moves.

You need to ride the bike for awhile and be around some other bikes in order to get some ideas that you might like.
You don't want to jump right into some mods only to find out a few weeks later that you like something else better.

Lots of personal choices to be made when doing mods.

Take off one of the abundant pieces of black plastic the factory loves to give and replace it with a nice new genuine over priced piece of HD chrome, and then you can join the "I got bent over by HD" club...

Just kidding, I hope you have loads of fun with the new ride... Please the wife, If she's happy, you get to ride more

One of sailors what works with me (I'm Active Navy) told me the same thing. He ordered a Fat Bob as well, and the pipes are the first thing he's replacing. He's had bikes before however.

Oh, I'm not gonna jump into anything just becasue it seems to be the popular thing to do.
As for the seat, well she decided that first, after she got over the shock of me buying a bike in the first place. I think she thinks I"m going thru a mid-life crisis, but at 46 i'm not even close.

The couple months I've been on this forum I've heard, in more than one way, that MoCo really does like to bend you over when you're not looking.
I just want to minimize the impact on my backside when they DO start with all that mess, by trying to get as many opinions as possible on this stuff.
As for the riding, Well... I just got back off a Navy Deployment yesterday, and if I wasn't stuck back onboard the ship today standing duty, there'd be alot MORE riding being done - but not on a bike.
She seems to want to partake on riding the BIKE with me once I get it.
Looking forward to it. Come on April!

ALMOST got a Street Bob instead. Salesman out here on the ship tried to talk me into a Super Glide Custom. Figured I'd go middle of the road for my first one. Acutally bought it sight unseen. Then last week when I was in Hawaii I found the local dealer and saw it person. Will be an interesting undertaking once I DO get mine under me.

I sure a #ell hope to have ALOT of find riding that thing. With or without the wife in tow

Thanks.

Depending on how much you want to throw down first.

Cheap start
Seat for wife and some slip ons (don't need EFI module)

expensive start
Seat, full set of pipes, air cleaner and power commander V

All other mods feel free to ask and here are some links to get started on cheap mods or do it yourself. Also Ebay is my best friend!!!

Here's how to under $50

Good luck, have fun and Hooyah Navy!
