Instead of perpetuating my previous thread, I'll start another one. Some of you may have read and responded to my last thread about this idea. Well now I can actually show what I have in mind.
To bring others up to speed, I want to swap out my stock pleather tank console strap with a chrome console extension. But I didn't want to lose my #1 Super Glide Medallion (silly I know). Well, it turns out that medallion is just a piece of tin that was stuck to the old strap with adhesive and it peeled right off clean when I removed the strap from the tank. It is hollowed out underneath and appears to be just the right depth for some 3m double sided tape. So I was wondering how it would look affixed to the new chrome extension. Well here it is. I think I like it enough and it's removable enough that I'm going to go ahead and do it. The console extension is sort of domed in the middle but this tin medallion bends very easily so I should be able to get a good fit. Here are a couple of quick cell phone pix:
Thanks for the update and new thread. I am thinking of leather the pleather but repacing the medallion with an old coin that I got from overseas that should just fit in its place.
That was a quick mod. I like it. Yeh cadmonkey, how it holds up will be the question. But if it comes loose, I got more tape. :-)
Here are a couple more quick pix of the finished product on my bike. Seems to have resolved my seat fitment problem too. Well, this and some "persuading" with some wrenches on the front tongue on the seat.
I always like the 2007 and up Super Glide Custom , the dash , bigger tank , emblems , etc , if i had know about the bike i would have bought one before my 2006 street bob , i did not do my research

Yeh, I wish I had waited til 08. They dropped the price over a grand and didn't change the bike. I was pissed. And by the way, I don't think there was a FXDC in 06. That was the 35th anniversary and they had the red, white, and blue special edition that had a lot of the same features that are now on the 07 and up FXDC's.
I don't feel so bad using double sided tape for this mod, by the way, because that's essentially how they had that medallion stuck to the factory strap to begin with.
