The retained heat promotes scavenging which translates into free power.

Not sure it makes a noticable difference in HP, I get the scavaging concept, but I like the way it looks.Make sure when you wash your bike you go out and ride it enough to dry the wrap or it will rust your pipes.

Well hell I'm busted! Ill go out tonight and REALLY wrap the pipe so I can take a pic tomorrow
I cant tell y'all how much HP I gained, not a lot but its nuff I can feel it.
Keeping exhaust gases hotter within the exhaust system
helps in decreasing density and increasing the flow of exhaust gases. This improves exhaust scavenging which,
in turn, reduces intake temperatures for increased horsepower gains. If the exhaust pipe is made of mild steel, it may rust over time with or without exhaust wrap. If you are going
to wrap any kind of steel pipe we recommend using our HT Silicone Coating to seal and protect the wrap and
even the pipe you are wrapping. In addition, HT Silicone provides added thermal insulation and increases the
longevity of your wrap.
(more propaganda from manufacturers) I know I have to maintain it and you have to be careful washing it, the DEI high temp silicone paint as a base and sealant is sposed to help. I have an extra can for touch up, I spayed some inside as far as I could get, don't know if that will help.
Pics tomorrow.
You can google the topic and find all kinds of info from racing apps etc...

Every primary exhaust pipe I have ever seen that was wrapped with that crap, (which unfortunately has been quite a few) cracked in many places and rusted to hell from wrapping them.

I work on race cars and have never seen that stuff since used in that application except for maybe 2 years back in the late 1980's when builders thought it made some form of difference.

It sure has made a revival with the "bobber" crowd. Oh vey.

Just something to consider when you wrap your $600 T-Header.

I have not seen any pipes wrapped correctly that were harmed, I have seen some that were not done right or maintained that looked like crap.
Your anecdotal report that "every pipe wrapped with that crap cracked in many places " weak at best, I have been riding most of my life and have never actually seen one crack, but Ill admit the possibility and if my $600 pipe ruins I will replace it, no problem I am very disappointed with the factory finish even tho I love the way the pipe runs. I can feel and hear a difference to the positive, you don't have to believe me, I started this post to relate my experience with the wrap not to start an argument.

"i wrapped mine but ended up taking it off and havingit ceramic coated ...to me it was just hot with out the heat shields (it gets to 120 here in the summer and was still 92 today) i could never tell any diffrence in power but i think it looks cool as hell."

Mine was Ceramic from the start so I didn't get the TH heat shields, it ran hot as hell, I burned one hole in a pair of jeans and one hole in a pr of thermal overhauls, and that was at 24 degrees in the sleet, so I adapted my stock heat shields to fit and solved that problem, I considered finding a good local ceramic coat locally but was probly gonna end up replacing the pipe with one of those V & H COMPETITION SERIES EXHAUST two into one short pipes, I have heard them they are great and produce about the same performance as the TH, so if this works I get to keep the TH if not I'm replacing anyway so its a positive change for me either way.
The wrap done right is much cooler that the factory ceramic on my pair. How did you ceramic coating work out for you? Mine took constant touch up with high heat paint to keep looking right, I cant believe that's normal.
