I wrapped my Thunderheader Saturday, I did it mostly because I got a Ceramic black model and the Ceramic was such a crappy job it looked terrible, I was always redoing parts with high temp black paint to keep it looking decent. I had heard that wrapping give you a little more HP and that is never a bad thing. I'm real fond of the TH just didn't care for the finish.
I used Accel black wrap with a few extra stainless zip ties and then painted the wrap and exposed pipe with DEI high temp silicone paint (I wrapped all but the last ten inches or so).
I was surprised by the results, pipe looks a little better, but it has a deeper tone and picked up a noticeable power increase, nothing dramatic but enuff to say I was pleased, seems to just run better.
Next upgrades are True Track-Ricor Intiminators-Headquarters 500 cam and one 'o them big fat a/c from Hillside. As scooter money comes to hand Ill be doing a little improvements.
Ill try to post a pic tonight or tomorrow, as far as HP, that wasn't my intent but its noticeable, as far as running cooler, I can put my hand on the wrapped pipe right after I get off, cant hold it there but it doesn't burn me and I can leave it on for about 2/3 of a second, 2 minutes I can hold the pipe in my bare hand.
I'm convinced. It aids in scavenging and has been used for years, I don't believe it will harm my pipes, although i would repaint if I removed it.
I ride better than 20,000 miles a year, I can tell when I do something that improves performance, and this does.
