If you're looking for someone to say 'get this size..bla bla bla' you may not be happy with it.

Best bet is to do this, as taught to me by a local indy:

sit on the bike..
close your eyes
throw your hands out and let them settle where they are comfortable. Don't force it.
Let a friend measure what height they're at.
Do this again 2-3 times to make sure your measurements are consistant.
Purchase new bars.
Enjoy the ride.

I just installed 16" apes on my bobber recently. The "it might be tough to make tight turns" is true when it comes to pushing the bike around - as in or out of parking spots, u-turns etc.

16" fits me perfectly but I can imagine that at 18", with the bars pushed all the way forward like I like them, I would have to stand up to push the bike... if that makes sense.

BTW, I'm 5' 10"...

+1 on HCCC. Good customer service and prices are more than fair. When I bought my last pair of bars the tech had to call back because he wanted to check physical inventory compared to what they showed on the computer system. Believe it or not, the guy ACTUALLY called back within the time frame he promised.
Sorry I didn't clarify , I meant in the middlle of the street U turns with barely enough room for 2 cars , those are really tight turns to me,

sorry it took so long for me to get back . thanks for the input.
i was told at the dealer that the wide glide/street bob bars were 12".
more than likely i wil go with HCCC, i've read some threads on installing apes and fell sure i can handle it myself.
at my height (5'7") i was thinking 12 maybe 14 would be most comfy. i like the looks of the 16"s but feel that as much as we ride they wouldn't work for me.

Yea I see on HD's site they say the black mini apes are 12" http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

But then when you click on the "handlebar measurements comparison chart" link it says they are 10.25"
http://www.harley-davidson.com/pna/p...bmLocale=en_US

Also Wild 1 Chubby's site has a stock handlebar measurement chart here http://wild1inc.com/DIMENSIONS.pdf
And they list Street Bob and Wide Glide mini apes as 10 inches.

Default 22" Apes

6'2" - 20" with 2" riser.
Had a set of Carlini Gangsta Apes on 2oo7 FxDWG.

Man it looked SHIRT hot but didnt handle as good as it looked. After 140KPH (80MPH) she would start to wobble.
Not recommended for speed but to cruise was sweet az, fitted Arlen Ness Ram Horns - no more wobbles lol
