If you will ride it than ride my FXR than you will know why I made the statement I did. I have owned this bike (2005 Dyns) since 2006. I hate to ride it because:
I have something to compare it to.
I do not take my bagger very much unless requested by the "Other". I put a set of hard bags on my FXR. The bagger has my first set of C/F wheels, my inverted forks, the 124 S&S/139 HP dynoed, and a set of #3~#3 Ohlins. It is no pig for sure.
I prefer a short wheel base of the FXR/Dyna and no fairing (wind and smell thing).
My 05 Dyna is very slow and other than the wind in your face, provides my with zero excitement. It does beat a cage, hands down.
The ride beats you up and after 400 miles I want to get off the thing. Unacceptable! I am going to do something about it. This is a relatively low cost upgrade with the exception of the motor.
I can go on with this but you get my drift. This is my own opinion, If the bike was acceptable as is, I would not do anything to it.
Those are my reasons why I make that statement using my experience.
I was just saying that calling a certain harley a crappy bike might be a bit insulting to some owners of said bike. But I guess since none of them are voicing their opinions, I might as well STFU.
I guess since I own the said bike and no ones Else's, everyone has the right to modify their bike to suit themselves. My expectations of this bike and the ride it does offer is totally at odds with my needs, as per statement "Either fix, sell or burn it". That is why most bikes are not the same for everyone.

OK. I'll bite. That looks like XR1200 inverted front end. You've upgraded with Ohlins internals, define inexpensive. I would be interested in such a swap for a 2007 Dyna. I'm sure many others might be too. I've gotten the stock Showa 49mm as good as they get, works triple rate spring kit and Ricor IAS valves, I'm very happy with rear shocks YSS Z366 TRL are very good, but the front is not as compliant, although much improved over stock. PM me a price or better yet post it.
Before I'd spend $7,900 for a motor to drop into a $15,000 bike for the sake of performance, I'd pass on the $15,000 bike & use the $7,900 for a GSXR or CBRR.

I've discussed my requirements with Howard in person, instead of on here in public. That seems the most appropriate way to do business! Check out his website and you will find some answers, also questions you have yet to ask, then contact him direct, like pick up the phone!
The cartridge cost me $1,000. I bought everything else from HD. The Big Piston and the stock forks from a XR1200 are unacceptable to my needs as far as performance goes.
I know the difference between 11.5" rotors and 320 mm (larger) rotors is simply no comparison so I purchased a set of adapters for $85/each. Well worth the price. The 320 mm rotors weigh 3 1/4 lbs. & the floating HD 300 mm rotor weighs in at 6 1/2 lbs. Rotating mass is not constant and increases logarithmically example: a Fatboy 50 caliper wheel & tire weighs 45 lbs complete. At 40 mph it weighs 4X that or 180 lbs.
Motor. I got a deal on a brand new twin cam polished S&S 124 ci & a Spike 6 speed polished trans. I had to chrome the pan as it came without it. This motor will dyno out stock with around 118~124 HP. One HP/ci is all you can expect.
Motor work specified was over and above the cost of the motor. With experience of completing one motor previously we got 139 rear wheel hp out of it. Carb will get more HP especially in a 1/4 mi but EFI is much better for real world use in my opinion. I am uncrating it today and getting ready for transport tomorrow.
Those are the real costs and if anyone wants to build one, they will have to address the same as me. I am building this bike for me and if anyone wishes to use any of these ideas, please feel free to do so.
madden23 when I get a chance I will dig up my receipts compiled over the last 6 or so months on this project.
