my girl has been bitchin' at me since i sold my fatboy that she cant ride on the back of my bike anymore. i'm running an 08 SB with the stock solo seat from harley. what i was wondering was will a pillion pad suctioned onto the fender mess up my paint?
lets face it...everyone likes a little squeeze while blastin around on their bike, but i really dont want it at the expense of my paintjob or at the expense of buying a 2up seat just so she can come to the beach with me once a week in the summer.
I just added a pillion that matches my Super Glide stock solo. It comes with rubber bumpers that I attached to the underside of the seat (instead of the fenders as suggested by HD). It's quick release so I can go back to the solo and/or add my Motherwell rack. I haven't had anyone use it yet, but it looks comfortable enough.
I got an '09 Street Bob and I bought an '09 Lowrider seat...Direct bolt-on and not too bulky. They are pretty cheap used and takes about 3 minutes to change back to 1-up...not bad for comfort either..just remember, it ain't a touring bike.
i know the bike isn't really built for touring and right now i dont have the scratch (especially with all the other mods i'm planning for this winter) for a new seat (corbin or le pera)
i'm looking for a throw on take off pad (probably the stock pillion) so i can cruise around town with my girlfriend on the back, she doesn't like going too far anyway
all i'm asking is whether or not the pillion poses a threat to the paint on my rear fender. i don't want to take it off to ride solo only to find my fender scratched to hell...
I think any seat will leave scuff marks, especially in denim paint. The seat edges rest on the fender and with weight(passenger)will press and mark the paintwork over time.If you use the version with suckers make sure the fender and suckers are clean. The dork at the HD dealer who fitted the genuine add on passenger seat to the solo seat for me when I bought it did it wrong..when I finally changed out that set up for a lowrider seat six months later I hit the roof! Scratches down to bare metal where the two seats joined.Left it as I was fitting the Lowrider seat but even that after months of use showed up scuff marks on the fender around the edges where the seat touched. This is on Denim paint...can't polish the scratches or scuffs out..will have to get the fender repainted at some point if I want to run solo seat again...good luck
