My BF has a SG and I have a LowRider. You can always add chrome, etc. I'm thrilled to have an EFI bike and not have to deal with a carbed bike anymore. Of course I don't maintain my own bike anyway.
Thanks for the replies everyone! Azgunner, I like the idea of the Timken bearing. Anyone have any first hand experience with the valve seal issue? I will contact the owner of the 05 and ask if he's had any valve guide/oil burning issues. Not sure he's had the bike long enough or put enough miles on it to know, but i'll ask. I'm guessing HD won't cover this as a goodwill repair at this late of date...
I would say that after reading the replies and sleeping on it, I would be leaning toward the LR right now. I do like the look of the bike..I also thought that you get the tach too as well as all the chrome goodies. Unless the guy with the 05 would drop the price some more, it would be hard to duplicate the LR for same amount of cash.
I have ridden both bikes around the neighborhood but not out on the open road up to speed. Want to do that. Will I notice much performance difference on the open road with the Mikuni vs the FI? Owner of the LR says the Mikuni "really wakes the bike up!". I have no reference to go by so any first hand experience/info in this regard would be helpful.
Really appreciate all the comments and help, everyone! This is a great board!

Definitely go for the LR... modding the engine will be cheaper with the CV carb... no messing around with the ECM, O2 sensors, Power Commander, Dyno, MAP Downloads, etc.
I've got an 05 FXDLI and a carbed 02 Superglide. My Superglide is set up like the L/R you are looking at. The valve guide seals on the 05's were replaced on HD's dime, under their warranty. If the 05 Superglide uses oil, check the plugs, then the heads will have to come off for the repair. The 2000 LowRider isn't without it's faults. HD had a camshaft bearing issue in the pre 2002 engines. The sad part was they wouldn't replace them until they failed, 50,000 miles or 5 years. Call a dealer and get quotes on these repairs and work the price down accordingly. Hate to pass along bad news, but once the engines have been updated you'll be a happy camper for about 15,000 miles. Good luck with your decision.
My buddy has a 99 Lowrider and I would take his bike in a heartbeat if it was offered to me. It handles like a dream and if you bump the engine up to a 95ci you better buy a new pair of shorts because it will make you crap your pants when you open the throttle.
The LR probably has the 42mm Mikuni which is a good carb, provides a little better throttle response than a 40mm CV (which is also a good carb). The Mikuni would also work well if you decide to go 95" later. I've heard of the cam bearing issue on the earlier TCs, not sure how prolific it really was though. On internet websites you tend to hear far more negatives on issues which make them out to seem to be more than they really are. You can always replace the cam bearings as well if you ever do any big bore work. If you really thought youHAD to replace them it's not a very difficult job or time consuming to do.
