Default Diy cheap suspension help!!!!

OK I'm the only one working in my family of three. So I have to do everything on the cheap. I have done most of the work to my bike on my own. I'm wanting to take my bike from home made rigid struts back to the stock shocks because my old lady doesn't like the ride. I wanting to know if theres a way to lower the back of the bike with the stock shocks on my own. I was thinking of making lowering blocks out of some 1/2 thick steel plates that I had gave to me from the welders on one of my jobs. But I don't have the dimensions to make it. If any one has any ideas or can give me the dimensions on the block that would be awesome.

Thanks,
John

I would think that you would need some stiffer than stock shocks, if you used lowering blocks.
Your lady don't like the ride now, she wouldn't like it while you were constantly bottoming out, either.

This guy on Ebay came up on a Google search for lowering blocks

http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/tmworks1

Hes got a good assortment of lowering blocks to look at. Id just take a picture and guestimate the dimensions. If you need stiffer shocks Id also keep an eye on Ebay for some HD Harley take off shocks.

Havent actually looked at my setup to put on lowering blocks but the ones Im seeing looked milled to match up the mounting surfaces. Id say youd probably have to take some 1/4 or 3/8 stock, overlap them to match the mounting surfaces, weld em up solid, cut em to shape and drill your holes.

I have done this in the past, for the back shock I made my own plates re-locating the bottom shock mount also I have in the past welded another lower shock mount onto the swingarm giving me two choices to mount the shock. As the front goes it is pretty easy you can cut down the spacer for the spring or if more is needed carefully cut down the spring.Good Luck !

I cannot help thinking that being comfortable 2-up and lowering a bike are two things that go together like cat and dog. I wouldn't do it!

OK Ya'll I got the point that's why I was wanting a way I could do it with out spending to much and I could put it back quick. You know like the blocks or like FLYING said just welding another shock mount. That way you have to to choose from.
