any of ya"ll with a 06 dyna have any trans problems??? mines jumping out of 3rd gear. been thru the inner primary ,rotor and stator, front end clunk, slipped crank, leaking master cylinder problems and now a 3rd gear problems. starting to miss the sportster it went 13000 miles with nothing but oil changes and tires. seems like every 3500 miles something breaks on the dyna. its only got 22000 miles and 59 1/4 mile time slips on it.
sorrry, no major problems with my 06 dyna.
33,000 miles and only general maintnance
On your 1/4 miles are you useing your clutch or no clutch?
clutch is holding between gears, brings the front wheel up a foot in 3rd. starts jumping out of gear in 3rd, only starting at about 80 mph. it just started doing it in this cold **** weather, its got 80w90synthetic gear oil in it,gonna go back to 20w50 amsoil in case its the thicker oil causeing problems.

It is not the oil. Check the shift pawl, shift drum spring or shift fork. Sounds like the drum is not rolling it all the way into gear. Could be the shift fork is worn or bent. But first try adjusting the shift pawl as that is easiest. The shift drum springs on Harley transmissions are not the strongest so if you drag the bike and have been jamming on the shifter you could have bent a fork or broke the spring.
Ok....I guess this is the 3rd gear issue
I have seen a few 3rd gear issues , esp when the bike has been used on the strip
The issue so far has always been the same
Now that does not mean that will be the case here, but it may be a good start point for you
What I have seen every time is the dogs have become worn, and tend to push the gear out, rather than pull it in(and that is a big part of how the tranny works)
Do not think for a moment that the shifter fork is designed to hold that gear in, as it certainly is not
It is only there to control the movement of the gears
The backcut of the dog is what ensures drive
Sometimes HD gears do not engage as efficiently as might be desired, and what I mean by that is that the overlap of the dogs may only be around 50 %, when 75 might be a little nicer
On a 5 speed, you could move the gear a little, as they had washers either side
Not so easy looking on a 6 speed, with the more fixed gear position
If there is wear there, it may have to be a case of replacement parts only, as opposed to being able to do a simple mod to help things out.
I can see how a lack of engagement issue could be addressed, but it would not be easy(and may not even be necessary)
