I don't get it.
According to the service manual.
Unscrew lower bolt and loosen upper bolt on the left side of the battery case.
Battery tray will drop down.
Seems pretty clear to me.
Well, it don't drop down.
Any ideas why it's not happening for me?
btw, I notice a black 3 inch strip of rubber above the top chrome cover. Is this suppose to be loose from the the chrome cover and attached to the frame or is it suppose to be attached to the chrome cover cap with some sort of glue?
whatcha ridin?
The year and model does make a diff.
On my '03 WG I have to also loosen the back tray bolt and take the front one (bolt) off to get the tray to tip down allowing the battery to clear the frame. Just don't let the neg and pos terminals touch the frame at the same time or its going to be a mini fireworks display....could cause harm to electronics or the battery if ya do let them both touch.
Yeah, was a bitch getting the batt box off my s/o's 2000 FXDL. We replaced it with the rounded, one-piece style cause the corner was digging into her thigh. Onepiece is much easier to install and take off.
I was going to tell you that it takes a little shaking and movement to get the tray to drop down. Another little trick, take a real cheap 10mm box wrench, heat it up real good and put about a 45 degree bend in it about 3/4 to 1 inch from the box. This makes the cable mounting bolt much easier to access and remove.
