Anyone out there install these themselves.
I would like to know what is involved and how difficult?
I'm hoping its nothing more than lifting the rear wheel and removing four bolts.

It's a pretty simple job, but you need to jack the font end nearly off the ground. Lift up the frame until the back tire is barely off the ground. Remove both shocks. Lower the frame to match your new shorter shocks. Bolt the new ones on. It's really very simple. With my Dunwell jack I think the whole job took about 30 minutes.

If the new shocks happen to be the same length as the old ones, it's even easier. R&R the left, and then R&R the right. No need for a jack.

One thing to make it just a tad easier is to slide a 1x6 a few feet long under the tire longways, then slide a chunk of 2x4 under the 1x6 crossways. When you get ready to install the lower bolts you can just put a little pressure on the 1x6 outboard of the 2x4 to move the tire up and down slightly to get the bolts in. It's hard to stop the jack precisely where you need it. This helps if you're by yourself.

Good Luck

Tom

I had to remove the lower shock bolt to install the roller bearing for my Boss Bags (saddlebags). All I did was loosen and remove the bolt. I then had a buddy lift the back of the bike so I could get the bolt back in.

If you do one shock at a time you should be able to change them without a lift.

I've notice a big jump in price when moving from the 412, 418 & so on to the 440's. Does anyone know who is selling them for the best price?? I've seen them going north of $500 on some sites. YIKES.

Very simple job as stated above. I did it alone with my craftsman jack---used the wood trick for the rear and front tire also---. Mine are 11 inch HD progressive 412's. I set them at the lowest preload (I'm 195lbs) and the ride is stiffer but better. I also ride 2 up quite a bit. Now I want to upgrade the fronts too!

If anyone has factory takeoffs from a LowRider,

I'd be interested if you want to get rid of the set.

Mine is an 06, I think other year models use the same shock.

I think Eastern Performance has them at one of the better prices. It seems a lot of guys got them there.
