I got a Viper alarm system with internet tracking on mine... they wired it all to the stock key fob... my buddy did it for me... the new siren is stupid loud... and i can pull up just where my bike is on the web... pretty cool
The one thing I do at my house is pull my car behind my bike. I have a narrow driveway with my house on one side and neighbors on other. You would have to steal both to get bike out of my back yard. You can't even open the fence to rest of driveway when car is in the driveway.
Well Wholbein............ your post prompted me to call my Harley Dealer and authorized them to order and install the HD's Factory Security System Smart Siren II part number 68328-06A $89.99 and I bought the optional Pager Receiver item #91660-06 for $69.99to go with it. Although I have Harley's standard security system... it wont sound any alarms should someone try and move it. All it does is flash lights and disconnect the fuel supply. Wouldn't do me a bit good if I'm inside a building or my bike's in a big parking lot at a rally. Here's what Harley's siren system says:
The Harley-Davidson Smart Siren II combines the functionality of the smart siren and pager transmitter into one easy-to-install unit. Featuring a built in back-up power supply, the siren and transmitter functions will continue to operate even if the wires are cut or the vehicle battery is disconnected. When combined with the Pager Receiver II (sold separately), the integrated FM transmitter can warn of tampering up to 1/2 mile away. Smart Siren II features an enhanced sound chamber, a redesigned internal battery access cover, and ultra low power consumption during the standby mode. When activated, the Security System Fob arm and disarm commands are confirmed with a chirp feature.
So when we do our Lake Superior Circle tour this summer, and our bikes are parked overnight at a motel's parking lot, 1,000 miles from home and in another country..... I wont have to worry if I have a bike to come out to the next morning.......ESPECIALLY in this kind of economy.
Wholbein.......
My bike's in storage at my dealers for the winter. Truthfully, I dont mind supporting my local HD dealer letting them do the install. They've taken totally insane care of both of our bikes since the day we've purchased them, and give us 20%-25% discount off any parts we buy, so that more than makes up for labor fees. I sure would get the pager.....if.....you got the model siren that supports it. If your siren didn't come with the antenna tail, the pager wont work.
Anyway.......thanks for your post. BTW..... in the forum archives people who have this system posted a lot of info on how to install, arm and disarm the siren and if the siren is activated, how to get it to stop. Simply having the fob close to the bike wont shut it off. Here is a link. GOOD INFO AND A GOOD READ. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...it-w-pics.html
Anyway.... I want to thank you for posting your story...and I'm sorry about your bike.
I would imagine since they know you have a Harley, they might be back for another attempt.
I'd get that pager ASAP!!
Thanks for the info everybody. I am looking into Lojack now.
LWOS: thanks for the info, Your dealership sounds awesome I wish all were like that. Sorry for my negative reply. If your dealership is that awesome I would use them too.
