Default Motorcycle security

Hello Guys,

I had a wake up call this morning, my other bike( '99 SV650) and my roommates bike ('09 SV 650) were stolen. My Harley was parked next to it. I am one lucky bastard but on the bright side my '99 SV doesn't run so the jokes on them in that respect. (trying to look on the bright side is harder than you think in these situations)

So my question is what are the best options for security for my Harley. I plan on getting a larger chain and lock but is there anything else I can do?

Thanks for any help

Get a Silent Alarm with a Pager Option. This way you are the only one that knows it's going off and you can catch them in the Act .

Sadly if they really want it nothing can stop them but this may help in making them move on with your heavier chain and lock.

Rotweiller and a shotgun!

Sorry bout the bike. Least they didnt get em both.

Bike security, just like home security, isnt about making your stuff impossible to steal. Its about making your stuff harder to steal than the other guy's stuff. I like to think ofit as a neighborhood competition. Make my house harder to break into than the neighbor's house.

I like the Kryptonite locks and chains / cables myself. Disk locks are hard to defeat and cables locked to poles make em hard to pick up and carry.. Sink a large eye-bolt in the concrete if you dont have a pole.

The only security system that my insurance company gets excited about is the LoJack system, but it's expensive. I rent a garage and lock mine up and it has the H-D factory security system, but even that's not fool proof.

+1 on LoJack. LoJack was $800 one-time charge to have installed, and has no monthly fee to it. It also gets you 20% off your insurance with most companies, so it ends up paying for itself in about 4-5 years. It's by far the best security you can get. They have recovered bikes in less than 2 minutes here in Florida (thief was across the street getting gas). If they don't recover it, they pay you for the bike + $5000. It's really quick too. My girlfriend's dad sat on my bike in the driveway when he came over one night and I got a cell phone call, text message, email, and call on my work phone before he got to the front door.

On my bike, I have LoJack, RoadLok, and all the factory stuff (factory security, fork lock, ignition lock). If anyone gets my bike, they deserve a pat on the back... right before a fist to the face.

Thanks for everybody's help! I just bought a kyrptonite chain and upgraded the security system. I am looking into Lojack as well. I want to do everything I can to prevent this, even though I know that nothing is 100% effective.

Thank you again and I hope this never happens to any of you.

Also try to park it where its kind of hard to get to (if you can). There was a story a few years back where guys were pulling up in cars or trucks with a bed mattress towing behind them. They would tip the bike over on the mattress and drive away.

Really sorry it happen to you buddy! Strange tho that they chose the other bike rather than the Harley.

I've heard bad and good things about LoJack...many good tho And I think I would go with it + Disk Lock + HD factory security system. That should do it lol.

The one thing I do at my house is pull my car behind my bike. I have a narrow driveway with my house on one side and neighbors on other. You would have to steal both to get bike out of my back yard. You can't even open the fence to rest of driveway when car is in the driveway.
