Default Handlebar Limitations For Super Glide

As much as I love my '05 Super Glide Custom, I get frustrated sometimes with its limitations, specifically handlebars. I would love to put some 'mini-apes' on it, but it looks as if I can not. Exactly what handlebars will work on my bike, and please post the part # if you can. I use a Sundowner seat, which allows me to kick back a little bit more, and I need about 2" on the bars to be totally comfortable. Are there bars out there that come back toward the rider a little bit, and how do they look? I love the apes on the Wide Glide, but HD's catalog doesn't include the '05 Super Glides as a fit for them.

HD apes

Those what you're looking for? You should be able to make pretty much any bar you want fit as long as you're willing to replace the cables and possibly the risers. According to the website they fit the FXD.

You can pretty much use any type of handlebars you want. You might have to change out the cables and extend the wires, but that should be it. I replaced my handlebars on my superglide with the 6"risers and drag bars from a night train and they went on without a hitch.

I also know of a guy who put 16" apes on his lowrider, so I know you shouldn't have trouble with the mini-apes off of a wide glide.

You can install almost anything you want, if yiou are willing to change cables.

I installed Wide Glide handle bars on my FXD and had to change:
1. Clutch cable
2. Brake line

The wiring on the throttle side had to be pulled out from under the gas tank a little.
The throttle cables had to be routed from the front of the bars to the rear.

The absolute hardest part was changing the clutch cable. And that took about 20 minutes.

Do you have a manual? If you dont - then get one.

Buy you some wide glide mini apes, wide glide clutch cable, wide glide brake line and get busy.

I am thinking of doing this to my 05 super glide custom. Thinking of just adding 4" risers. I'll obviously have to change cables. So that'll add to the cost. Is there a better handlebar set than stock once you add the risers? I've ridden an FXR Low Rider Sport and a Electraglide so I'm looking not to lean forward so much. Hope that makes sense. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb...&id=1157142785

1992FXRS,

I have a 2007 FXDC. My stock handlebars were buckhorns. I have since swapped bars out 3 times. 1:crazy z bars, 2:mini apes, and 3:jammer z bars.

The most comfortable bars without leaning forward that I have tried would have to be mini apes from a street bob. I think there are some for sale in the dyna parts forum right now, they can be had relatively cheap, 30-50 bucks usually.

I have to tell you that I added 4 inch risers to my stock bars prior to swapping bars and in my opinion they looked kind of goofy.

I would suggest you consider a style of bar you like and get the proper rise out of them without the need to purchase and use risers. In my opinion, from what you describe, the mini apes should be perfect if you want some rise and pullback, and they adjust forward and back to suit your comfort.

Good luck,

Tom

Who says?

That's because the 2006+ mini-apes are 1.25" in diameter and require 1.25" risers since they didn't step down to 1". No big deal. Just swap out your risers. It's two bolts (one on each riser).

So, they will work you just can't slap the bars on without also changing the risers.

Riser part number: 56613-06 - https://shop.zanottimotor.com/part/56613-06

OR...just find 1" diameter handlebars that are around the same dimensions as the HD bars (p/n:59782-07)

ZeroFiveFour,

Thanks for the advice. My dad told me the exact same thing... (Hate it when he's right :P) I'll most likely be doing this within the next month or two. I'll post a few pics once it's completed.

-Respect to all.

As others have said, you can put any bar on their you want. I put some 10" Carlini Evil Apes on my Sueprglide Custom...but they are not stepped, so I had to buy their risers and put some new cables on as well. Then again, Carlini's risers flow much better with the bars than the stock one...and I already wanted better cables.

Good luck with whatever you choose.
