In my research on this forum, others forums and YouTube video reviews some have said the D&D Fat Cat sound bad on an non modified motor. Some have even commented it makes a Harley sound like a Honda.
I have been on the fence between V&H Big Shots with Quiet Baffles and the D&D Fat Cat with Quiet Baffles. Currently my engine is stock and I do not plan on modifying it in the near future. I am looking for the additional low to mid end torque. With the pipe upgrade I will also be doing a Doherty Intake and Power Commander III.
I do not like an obnoxiously loud bike but also want a nice sound before I mod (103 or more upgade) the motor and after. I would like to only buy one set of pipes but if the Fat Cat is going to sound like crap with an un-modded motor then I will go with the Big Shots.
I have heard them on both and don't like the sound. You will get better performance from the 2 into 1 Fat Cat though. It will just not sound right. I have BSS. My 2cents
The only way to know for sure is to get one. It is too difficult to tell in a video what it will really sound like. Find someone that has one in your area and listen to it in person.
mine sounds deep and aggressive. I would hazard to guess that some may have been tuned too lean or had a leak in their exhaust for the pipes to sound 'honda' like. You gotta be very careful with the head pipe installation and finagle it around quite a bit or a leak is possible.
mine is stock. personally, if I were wiling to spend money on another exhaust, I would get bassani 2-2 pro-streets, bub 2-1 lakester, or V&H comp series system(the 2-1 systems are for 06+ so I would have to mod to fit). Only reason is I like a shorter system than the fatcat is.
I have heard some complain of the sound of the Boarzilla on a stock motor but not on the Fatcat. Maybe the other baffles (they have 3 options) may not give as good as sound (not sure which Rounder has) but the quiet baffle on a stock motor is very deep.
I can tell you the thunderheader doesn't sound good at idle but sounds bada$$ when you twist that throttle. Is it possible the fat cat has the same deal?
