Since the high for today is going to be 40, I had to get out for a ride today. In my rush to get on the road I grabbed my leather gauntlets instead of my heated gloves. My girlfriend was along for part of the ride in her car and took some pics of me riding. After about 20 min my fingers started to burn so, I turned around to get the heated gloves. Passed a trooper radar-ing on the side of the road. Half mile down the highway I hear the a siren blip, turn around and blue lights. Crap. I didn't know why he pulled me over, I wasn't speeding...much. Turns out he pulled me because my bars are too high. Law is 15" above the highest part of the seat. I'm 25". He was a pretty cool cop though and let me go with a warning. As he was turning around to go back to his car and let me go he said "God bless your soul for riding today." Made me smile. I got some cool pics and a story out of my ride today. Happy Valentines Day ya'll.
I couldn't ride with my arms that high anyway, bad shoulders. I got out and rode in my coveralls the other day, it was in the 40's, I know how you feel about wanting to get out.
I wish it was in the 40's! Cool thing that he let you off with only a warning. With being 10" over the limit, what do you plan on doing with the bars now?
15" above the seat is not very high at all. I have never heard that. That would mean that any factory harley with 12" bars would fail. I think he was mistaken. Most bars are 15" above seat. mine are 20" and my bars are not even high
What I hear is hand position in relation to shoulders

Well I told him I would pull them back. I've gone 9 months without anybody saying anything about my bars. Sooooooo....I'm gonna leave them the way they are. There are 2 other bikes in my area with 18"s. One of them looks like he has 6" risers. I know the whole "well they are doing it too" argument isn't going to work but their bars are much higher than mine and if they have been getting away with it for so long then I feel pretty safe.

If I understand the law correctly (not sure if it's city or state) then no modifications whatsoever are allowed on any motorcycle. No turn signal mods, bars, over sized tires, wheels, exhaust, etc. Stupid law.
Cleaned the garage yesterday and couldn't resist firing up the bike. It started easily and begged to be let out so I went for a short ride. Roads are clear, but salty so I didn't go far at all. Ears froze first, it was in the low 20s. God that felt good!
