Default lowering rear w/o the front

plans changed and now i have a 06 SG on the way (instead of the fxst). first thing first, the whole thing (specifically the **** end) needs to come down........drasticly! and let me qualify a few things too; A) i know the bob's are already lower, B) i know that if you normally do the rear w/o the front, it can/will f-up the geometry and cause it to push in turn C) i am totally ok w/ a harsh-er ride, rode a hardtail for a little while.

so, those of you that have hammered the rear (TOMMAY especially and a few others) did you also drop the front?.......further?

it doesn't look like it and i am wondering if it has made that much difference handling-wise. and in my case, w/ a stock SG non-lowered front, will a 11 or an 11.5 shock really jack it up?

thanks for the help, this board is a priceless source of info!

the SG is already lower. you can lower the rear without screwing up the front. The only thing the rear lowering does, it gives the front a slight more trail and makes the bike turn a little heavier. Sometimes this is not a bad thing.

I agree, it handles just fine with only rear lowered. I am only lowering the front for looks only!

Can't see that it handles any different as far as the front end is concerned, handled like crap before and handles like crap now. Front end wallows like a pig. Plan on better front springs and heaver oil soon.

Good Luck

I agree. I only lowered mine 3/4" at the seat. I don't notice any adverse handeling charectoristics.

If you ride solo, you can get away with an 11" rear shock.

I have 11" Progressive 412H/D's on the rear of my Superglide, and the front end is stock.

Handles great! It doesn't lean over as much on the kick stand though....[&:]

P.S. you can get a new set of progressive 412 H/D's from Jireh cycles for under 200 bones including shipping (free).

I ride solo 95% of the time. Have decided on 11" Progressive 412's .... so what problems am I gonna see with riding 2-up on the 11"ers? I'll certainly adjust the pre-load etc ...

I don't think you'll have a problem. The 11 inch shocks will bottom out sooner on a really hard bump cause they have less travel, but that's the price you pay for a lower stance. You could go with heavy duty shocks if you were two up all the time but they'd be way too stiff for one up. At 150 you'd probably use the softest setting and just crank up the tension when you go two up.

Good Luck

Check Eastern Performance for pricing. They had the lowest price when I bought mine. 189 with free shipping.
