Has anyone installed 14" apes on an FXDB themselves? My dealer says it will cost me 8 hrs labor ($650)for them to do it? It seems pretty straightforward; lengthen cables, wiring. I know my exhaust have to be removed to install new clutch cable, which means new tranny fluid. New brake cable means new brake fluid. Internal wiring just needs to be lengthened. I don't know, I just dont see 8 hrs by a competent mechanic. Anyone? BTW, one of you guys has some photos of an '09 FXDB with this exact same mod done. I haven't been able to find them since I stumbled across them awhile back??
The only thing you might have to change would be the idle and throttle..YA just have to reroute clutch ...pull the slack on the break....The dealers price sounds good ,i mean normal for them,,What type of apes or you going with....
Check with your local indy before doing anything...Will save you money and the quality of work will be fine. If you're somewhat handy you can easily do it yourself.
I'm having 16" apes installed this coming Friday. I would have liked to do the job myself but I'm on call 18/7/360 so it's just more practical to have the dealer do the job. Here's the breakdown of what they estimate will be the cost. They've estimated 5 hours labor but think they can get it done in 4. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Hope this helps you.

I agree. I had 14's on mine and didn't have to change anything. Throttle cable was a little tight but workable. A lot of it has to do with how far forward you push your bars as to how tight everything is. Good luck to ya.

Hey SFM, I just did bars on my bike. That price seems ok for a dealer, but someone that is some what handy can do it. I don t know much about bikes but am learning. I found it fairly easy to do the swap, and had one little problem with my throttle. The guys here were a big help and helped me fix the problem. Try it your self maybe. Or at least do some of the work! C

I'm going with Burly 14" narrow glide in black. BTW, are the stock bars 10"? That's what they measure but my dealer says they're 12"?
