I have seriously abused mine and it's no worse for the wear. I pay no attention to it, have washed it a handful of times in a year, and have strapped all sorts of things to the fender. I have no chips, scratches or wear to speak of, but of course that's only my opinion.
I'm sure a guy that likes a shiny, polished, chromed bike would look at mine and see swirls or wear or a scratch or whatever; I just don't care. That's why I went denim, I hate washing my bike.
I would say, if you're the type of person that washes, waxes, and looks for scratches on a regular basis (not that there's anything wrong with that) go with the vivid. If all of that isn't important to you, go denim.
I got my bob last week. I went back and forth on denim and vivid. Really wanted the vivid, found a denim at a great deal. Now Im not sure why I ever considered the vivid. The denim rules.
I have the Denim and I would trade it for Vivid in a heartbeat.I scuffed the rear fender on day one just trying to carry my usual bit of crap to work.I should have seen it comming but I had never owned a bike with a solo seat before and figured I could just bungee a small, soft gym bag on the back fender without messing up anything. WRONG in just 20 miles I had dark spots on my fender that would not go away.My next move was throw-over saddle bags but no matter what I did the yoke from the saddle bags wore the fender paint even worse.Anyway, the vivid probably would have been damaged too but I could have easily polished it out.Long story short I think the Denim, at least the version I have is way too fragile for this expensive a motorcycle.I have since converted the saddle bags into detachables with easy brackets and resprayed the rear fender. It looks OK but it was allot of hassle and expense that I probably wouldn't have had with the shiny paint.
Well this is what went down today!!
Thanks to all you guys and your helpfull advice i went down to the dealer and put a deposit on a 07 denim black streetbob...
Pick it up next friday so im having a beer now to celebrate...
