I have an 05 FXDL with the Custom Chrome fwd control kit & the 2" extention. As I was downshifting I sufftered a failure of the shifter rod. There is a ball attached to the rod that screws into the arm coming up from the tranny - that ball broke broke free. Anybody else have this problem? I have it temporarily wire tied & plan on making a shifter linkage in the mean time

 

I have the ball and socket stock linkage on my 02 wide glide and it happened to me in sturgis 2 yrs ago. I took some of the leather lacing from my vest and tied it back together and got home fine. I bought new linkage and still put the leather tie on each end to help absorb some of the vibration in the linkage and the 2yr old new ones are still snug, cheap fix and it helps make them last--jack
