Default Replacing that UGLY Stock Air Filter

From a design point of view, I'm not a big fan of the stock air filter on the Fat Bob. Would like something round and simple that shows off more of the engine.

I've always liked the look of these air filters.

Is it possible to put one on a 2010 Fat Bob - with no adverse effect? (Stock Pipes or V&H Short Shots)

300 CFM of airflow, however catalogue indicates carburetor.

If not - suggestions?

Thanks,

Jory

Following some debate, other various commentary, and a suggestion to do a forum "search", I'd say the general answer you will get is:

You can upgrade the filter and keep the stock exhaust or vice-versa with no issues and very little/no performance gain. Put both together and your motor will be running excessively lean and hot without "fuel management" software and/or hardware.

If I understand you correctly, you're looking for an intake that will give you the look with out requiring a fuel management system due to the increased airflow. That's kind of what I'm looking for as well but I've come up with nothing.

I with they made something like that because I'd love to get rid of the football air cleaner I have. I want to change it simply for looks reasons, not for performance gains. Everything I've found would require a fuel management system (i.e., Power Commander, FuelPak, SERT...etc).

Not particularly small but it's not a football. Stock Crossbones a/c with my paint job. Easy swap and cheap if you can find a take off. Pics in this link.

pretty good info. My buddy swears that all the extra stuff is not important and he doesn't get backfiring. He changed his pipes but not the air filter and did just a download with no dyna mapping or fuel management hardware.

Edit: I asked him again and it looks like he forgot he did the air cleaner, d'oh!

ummm...I'm no pro but I thought you couldn't get away with a new a/c without some sort of fuel management...pipes I know you can (I ran aftermarket pipes without a fuel management system for a while)...but the a/c will lean you out too much...scoot might run ok (even great) but your already hot engine will be running even hotter...I run a cobra system...easy to install and adjust...not the best for power, but the price is good and allows you to run an aftermarked a/c without any problems (ie, allows you to make the air fuel ratio richer)...like I said not the best for power but combination of cobra fuel management system and a new a/c might be reasonable for you...good luck.

Check out the kuryakin high five, thats what I have on my low-rider. Also look at a dobeckperformance fuel controller. It will make a big differance with an air cleaner and pipes. Don't you want the best for her?

That's correct, tca. The a/c is the restrictive component in a newer HD. Pipes won't change much especially if you have O2 sensors, since they can't exhaust any more gases than the engine can produce. Open up the a/c, however, and even with stock pipes you'll put more air into the mix, leaning the a/f ratio out (tho certainly not as much as both a/c and pipes).

I just did the Stage II kit with the Harley exposed air filter. Since my bike is a Dyna, they put the oval air filter on, and the cover from the "football" back on. It does breath better, but that football has got to go. Ordered a replacement backplate and filter to go with the open-air round. Now looking for a cover.

Kuryakyn will be coming out with a new air cleaner called the Velociraptor. Looks kinda' cool. It's in their Junior catalog.
