I am riding 70 miles a day for work at highway speeds and was contemplating a windshield for my bob, but don't like the look. I was wondering if I get one of the larger handlebar bags would it help deflect some of the wind I get slammed with everyday or not. The windnoise... it is terrible. What you guys do about it? Windshield probably... but I see tons of guys riding without them and they don't seem to bothered. I thought of earplugs also for the windnoise... not the pipes like so many others would think...hell I can't even here them above 60 over the wind.
I never remember having the issue before and I know why now that I think of it. When I was riding at a younger age I used full face helmets... so that would be another option. Maybe switch to a 3/4 since I currently have a 1/2... I just love my goggles to much.
I dont have a windshield on my 06 Superglide, yet anyway. I started using the foam ear plugs and they help greatly with all of the wind noise. I am using a Harley 1/2 helmet and the ear plugs definately are much much better than without. I am seriously considering getting a windshield also, mainly for the longer trips just to keep the wind and road junk off of me. I think you will definately notice a difference with the ear plugs.
I do have a windshield, but I also have a 1/2 helmet with a zip-out cushioned lining that covers my ears. I guess it's meant for riding in cooler temps, but I leave it on year round. It's comfortable and blocks out most of the wind.
I've posted this elsewhere but...
I'm very satisfied with my toolbag mounted over my headlight. It blocks all the wind I need to block off my chest and head, without the (really bad) buffeting I had from the HD mid, then tall, quick release windshields. The funny thing is that though loosely tied, it doesn't move at all, not matter the wind force or direction, and nothing's inside. $15.
Now I'm fine with my full face, which usually for my grandkids, or my 3/4 with faceshield.
For everyday around town riding i wear my 1/2 shell and day/night Panoptx glasses. If i'm going to be on the freeway for more then 15 minutes then i put on the ear plugs, otherwise i wont be able to hear over the ringing when i get to where i'm going. On longer trips, 200-300 miles+ going halfway across California, i always wear my full face, that has a smoked shield, and i have on my my headphones under the helmet that plug into my cellphone that has an MP3 player to keep my entertained on the long boring rides down the interstates. I have no windshield, nor do i plan on buying one, i also dont have and saddle bags. I can pack 3 days worth of gear in my backpack and strap it to my sissy bar. If i get to a point when i have to have bags and a windshield i'll get a Electra Glide, but for now, my Super Glide is perfect.
